Such a system imposes specific requirements in order to allow flexible integration of data, analysis services and communication mechanisms. Persons with different expertise and access rights cooperate in mutually influencing contexts (e.g. clinical studies, research cooperations). Thus, appropriate virtual environments are needed to facilitate context-aware communication, deployment of biomedical tools as well as data and knowledge sharing. We systematically elaborate the main requirements of a medical CSCW system and present a conceptual model, as well as an architectural proposal satisfying the demands. The framework implements a service oriented architecture and integrates different persistence layers. The requirement analysis for the Wasabi CSCW system is presented in the context of a collaborative environment for medical research which has strict requirements concerning data integrity. Mashups form a serious new trend in web development by contextualizing existing services and bringing customizable applications to the user. Out of this, a new style of web-based applications arises. To get a better understanding of the phenomena of mashups, this paper observes and interprets the way the development of web based applications and appropriate background systems changed. It presents several state of the art Web 2.0 technologies and points out why the evaluation of Web 2.0 applications currently moves from web-based APIs to web services. The user's search should not be restricted to local material; in fact, users benefit from different search environments, as, for example digital libraries to find appropriate working material. Searching and further processing of documents imply a media breach since the search cannot be invoked in current CSCW systems directly. This paper presents the first prototype of a CSCW system which enables users to search in external sources without media breach. To provide arbitrary search environments no restrictions to data formats or search functionalities are allowed. Hence we have enhanced search environments with self description capabilities in order to realize an automatic binding of search environments in CSCW systems. By search environments we address any system offering searchable knowledge bases, such as digital libraries or the CSCW system itself. Furthermore our concept supports local search and searching in different external sources at the same time.}, keywords = {automatic binding cscw digital distributed knowledge library space } } @inproceedings{SchulteHBH-2008, title = {Wasabi Beans -- SOA for Collaborative Learning and Working Systems}, address = {Phitsanulok, Thailand}, author = {Jonas Schulte and Thorsten Hampel and Thomas Bopp and Robert Hinn}, booktitle = {DEST '08: Proceedings of the Second IEEE International Conference on Digital Ecosystem and Technologies}, month = {February}, publisher = {IEEE Computer Society}, year = {2008}, biburl = {http://www.bibsonomy.org/bibtex/26037a0531dd3e2c2b023c78dea08769b/schulte}, keywords = {framework j2ee jboss soa wasabi } }
