@article{geffers_mortality_2008, abstract = {We performed a multicenter prospective matched cohort study to evaluate the mortality attributable to hospital-acquired infections among 12,791 patients admitted to surgical departments. We were able to match 731 patients with 1 or more hospital-acquired infections (ie, case patients) with 731 patients without a hospital-acquired infection (ie, control patients) at a 1:1 ratio. Of the 731 case patients, 42 (5.7\%) died; of the 731 control patients, 23 (3.1\%) died--a significant difference of 2.6\%.}, added-at = {2011-03-11T10:05:34.000+0100}, author = {Geffers, Christine and Sohr, Dorit and Gastmeier, Petra}, biburl = {http://www.bibsonomy.org/bibtex/2e4e85bbb48649d041d52cf745d4205ba/jelias}, doi = {10.1086/592410}, interhash = {2618b68964eab37aa5c9aea9c849de16}, intrahash = {e4e85bbb48649d041d52cf745d4205ba}, issn = {1559-6834}, journal = {Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology: The Official Journal of the Society of Hospital Epidemiologists of America}, keywords = {80 Adolescent, Adult Adult, Aged, Child, Cohort Female, Germany, Hospital Humans, Infection, Infections, Male, Middle Mortality, Prospective Studies, Surgical Wound Young and over, {Community-Acquired}}, month = dec, note = {{PMID:} 19014317}, number = 12, pages = {1167--1170}, timestamp = {2011-03-11T10:05:34.000+0100}, title = {Mortality attributable to hospital-acquired infections among surgical patients}, url = {http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19014317}, volume = 29, year = 2008 }
