	abstract = {This report covers research into the use of videoconferencing for teaching and learning at De Montfort University during the period 1994 –1998. The research concerns the use of room (or studio) based videoconferencing.  Initial research was conducted on an informal basis and the results of this are presented in Section 1.  This research investigated expectations of videoconferencing and compared these to the limited experience of usage at that time.  

As a result of this initial research, issues in the use of videoconferencing for teaching and learning were defined and used as a basis for an internal research proposal to further investigate staff and student attitudes and experiences of videoconferencing. The research proposal included the development of a staff training package in videoconferencing for teaching and learning and the resource booklet generated, “Practical Guidelines for Teaching with Videoconferencing” is also available at the JTAP web site (http://www.jtap.ac.uk).
