@inproceedings{Saggion/2007/Ontology-based, abstract = {Business Intelligence (BI) requires the acquisition and aggregation of key pieces of knowledge from multiple sources in order to provide valuable information to customers or feed statistical BI models and tools. The massive amount of information available to business analysts makes information extraction and other natural language processing tools key enablers for the acquisition and use of that semantic information. We describe the application of ontology-based extraction and merging in the context of a practical e-business application for the EU MUSING Project where the goal is to gather international company intelligence and country/region information. The results of our experiments so far are very promising and we are now in the process of bulding a complete end-to-end solution.}, added-at = {2007-11-07T19:13:58.000+0100}, address = {Berlin, Heidelberg}, author = {Saggion, Horacio and Bontcheva, Kalina and Funk, Adam and Maynard, Diana}, biburl = {http://www.bibsonomy.org/bibtex/2837c26926a5e2c025e16c8e5c36af752/iswc2007}, booktitle = {Proceedings of the 6th International Semantic Web Conference and 2nd Asian Semantic Web Conference (ISWC/ASWC2007), Busan, South Korea}, crossref = {http://data.semanticweb.org/conference/iswc-aswc/2007/proceedings}, editor = {Aberer, Karl and Choi, Key-Sun and Noy, Natasha and Allemang, Dean and Lee, Kyung-Il and Nixon, Lyndon J B and Golbeck, Jennifer and Mika, Peter and Maynard, Diana and Schreiber, Guus and Cudré-Mauroux, Philippe}, interhash = {a7d7a1cfa4bcacea805966f0667944a4}, intrahash = {837c26926a5e2c025e16c8e5c36af752}, keywords = {2007 application_software business extraction finance in_use_3 information intelligence iswc ontology ontology_(computer_science) semantic_web tool}, month = {November}, pages = {837--850}, publisher = {Springer Verlag}, series = {LNCS}, timestamp = {2007-11-07T19:13:58.000+0100}, title = {Ontology-based Information Extraction for Business Intelligence}, url = {http://iswc2007.semanticweb.org/papers/837.pdf}, volume = 4825, year = 2007 } @inproceedings{Elenius/2007/Purpose-Aware, abstract = {We describe a novel approach by which software can assess the ability of a confederation of heterogeneous systems to interoperate to achieve a given purpose. The approach uses ontologies and knowledge bases (KBs) to capture the salient characteristics of systems, on the one hand, and of tasks for which these systems will be employed, on the other. Rules are used to represent the conditions under whichthe capabilities provided by systems can fulfill the capabilities needed to support the roles and interactions that make up each task. An Analyzer component employs these KBs and rules to determine if a given confederation will be adequate, to generate suitable confederations from a collection of available systems, to pre-diagnose potential interoperability problems that might arise, and to suggest system configuration options that will help to make interoperability possible. We have demonstrated the feasibility of this approach using a prototype Analyzer and KBs.}, added-at = {2007-11-07T19:13:58.000+0100}, address = {Berlin, Heidelberg}, author = {Elenius, Daniel and Johnson, Mark and Ford, Reginald and Denker, Grit and Martin, David}, biburl = {http://www.bibsonomy.org/bibtex/225ad67b501d348937afa715368368bda/iswc2007}, booktitle = {Proceedings of the 6th International Semantic Web Conference and 2nd Asian Semantic Web Conference (ISWC/ASWC2007), Busan, South Korea}, crossref = {http://data.semanticweb.org/conference/iswc-aswc/2007/proceedings}, editor = {Aberer, Karl and Choi, Key-Sun and Noy, Natasha and Allemang, Dean and Lee, Kyung-Il and Nixon, Lyndon J B and Golbeck, Jennifer and Mika, Peter and Maynard, Diana and Schreiber, Guus and Cudré-Mauroux, Philippe}, interhash = {44b2b050aaf327b25507e8042302f54b}, intrahash = {25ad67b501d348937afa715368368bda}, keywords = {2007 application_software heterogeneous in_use_3 interoperability iswc ontology_(computer_science) reasoning semantic_web system tool training}, month = {November}, pages = {743--756}, publisher = {Springer Verlag}, series = {LNCS}, timestamp = {2007-11-07T19:13:58.000+0100}, title = {Purpose-Aware Reasoning about Interoperability of Heterogeneous Training Systems}, url = {http://iswc2007.semanticweb.org/papers/743.pdf}, volume = 4825, year = 2007 } @inproceedings{Gangemi/2007/Collaborative, abstract = {This paper introduces a framework to add a semantic web layer to legacy organizational information, and describes its application to the use case provided by the Italian National Research Council (CNR) intraweb. Building on a traditional web-based view of information from different legacy databases, we have performed a semantic porting of data into a knowledge base, dependent on an OWL domain ontology. We have enriched the knowledge base by means of text mining techniques, in order to discover on-topic relations. Several reasoning techniques have been applied, in order to infer relevant implicit relationships. Finally, the ontology and the knowledge base have been deployed on a semantic wiki by means of the WikiFactory tool, which allows users to browse the ontology and the knowledge base, to introduce new relations, to revise wrong assertions in a collaborative way, and to perform semantic queries. In our experiments, we have been able to easily implement several functionalities, such as expert finding, by simply formulating ad-hoc queries from either an ontology editor or the semantic wiki interface. The result is an intelligent and collaborative front end, which allow users to add information, fill gaps, or revise existing information on a semantic basis, while keeping the knowledge base automatically updated.}, added-at = {2007-11-07T19:13:58.000+0100}, address = {Berlin, Heidelberg}, author = {Gangemi, Aldo and Gliozzo, Alfio and Presutti, Valentina}, biburl = {http://www.bibsonomy.org/bibtex/26b723ab18f98a49737c8db7374228005/iswc2007}, booktitle = {Proceedings of the 6th International Semantic Web Conference and 2nd Asian Semantic Web Conference (ISWC/ASWC2007), Busan, South Korea}, crossref = {http://data.semanticweb.org/conference/iswc-aswc/2007/proceedings}, editor = {Aberer, Karl and Choi, Key-Sun and Noy, Natasha and Allemang, Dean and Lee, Kyung-Il and Nixon, Lyndon J B and Golbeck, Jennifer and Mika, Peter and Maynard, Diana and Schreiber, Guus and Cudré-Mauroux, Philippe}, interhash = {ef0afada35aeb75103d4e6ab5f9ab2a0}, intrahash = {6b723ab18f98a49737c8db7374228005}, keywords = {2007 application_software collaborative in_use_3 iswc layer legacy ontology_(computer_science) public_sector semantic semantic_web software_framework system tool web}, month = {November}, pages = {757--770}, publisher = {Springer Verlag}, series = {LNCS}, timestamp = {2007-11-07T19:13:58.000+0100}, title = {A Collaborative Semantic Web Layer to Enhance Legacy Systems}, url = {http://iswc2007.semanticweb.org/papers/757.pdf}, volume = 4825, year = 2007 }
