Mastersthesis,

Geometric Parameter Modelling by Advanced CAD Applications

.
Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Sarajevo, Master’s Thesis, (2009)

Abstract

This project presents results of research on possibilities of geometrical and parametric modelling of real mechanical parts, utilizing currently the most modern CAD/CAM/CAE software system CATIA V5. The list of pictures, tables and symbols is presented in the beginning of the project. The language index is presented in the end of the project. The project consists of seven chapters and appendices. The area of research with clearly defined goal, method and content of research is presented in the first chapter, as well as the laboratory equipment being used (working stations and CATIA V5 system). The second chapter contains description of advantages of computer-aided design versus the conventional approach. It also contains description of certain phases of design processes and review of new design methods. The third chapter consists of basic principles of computer graphics and transformations upon which the computer modelling of mechanical design is based. The fourth chapter contains description of geometrical and parametric modelling of mechanical parts. The practical use of displayed methods is presented in the fifth chapter by the examples of geometrical and parametric modelling of different kinds of gears in the CATIA V5 system. The final considerations in the sixth chapter consist of CAD/CAM/CAE system implementation phases, as well as the consequences of its implementation. The sixth chapter shows that the functionality of parametric association has to be used in interaction with the current, traditional geometrical approach of modelling. The final seventh chapter contains literary reference.
