Abstract
This paper presents an argumentation-based analysis of the French connective OR with Spanish equivalents, taken from a corpus of French scientific texts with corresponding Spanish translations. Following a brief discussion of the connective's etymology and semantic values, an analysis is made of its contextual function. This analysis provides identification of the contextual values and categorises them. The resulting categorisation criteria are used as the basis for an assessment of the choice of connectives in the corresponding Spanish translations, as well as suggesting possible alternatives. .
