The transition to market economy of Russian society since the early 1990s has not brought a fully fledged concept of labour relations. The concept of labour relations found in Russia today is rather the product of the ignorance of the state authorities, which led to a situation of increased tension between labour and capital. The contradictions in social and labour-relations stem, on the one hand, from Soviet society, and on the other, have been generated by the transition to market per se. The author endeavours to give response to the question, why does a model of social partnership limit itself only to its formal aspects rather than seek an essential shift in the direction of the establishment workable framework of labour relations?
