Abstract

The article examines interlingual subtitling for the deaf and the hard of hearing (SDH) as a self-contained audiovisual translation modality. Although interlingual SDH shares some common ground with its elder siblings, i.e. standard interlingual subtitling for hearing viewers and monolingual subtitling for the deaf and the hard of hearing, it differs from them in terms of text reduction, redundancy and editing.
