Traditionally, the concept of digital literacy has been basically circumscribed to providing ICT�s (Information and communication and technology) infrastructure and internet access to the higher education institutions. This vision has prevented a more holistic conception in regards with the role which play the ICT�s literacy in the teaching and learning processes and in the society as well. This article has as a main purpose to present a research and theoretical overview which allow us to understand the digital literacy dimensions, the technological gap between students and professors, and the curricular and pedagogical implications that bring about meaningful changes in the traditional teaching models that pervade a great number of Universities.
