Prediction of auditory matching performance of developmentally handicapped individuals

, , and . Developmental Disabilities Bulletin, 23 (2): 1-15 (1995 1995)PO: Human; AG: Adulthood (18-yrs-and-older); MD: Empirical-Study.

Abstract

Examined the auditory matching test for predicting ability to match common sounds of objects, live-to-taped speech sounds and live-to-live speech sounds. Three groups of 4 moderately and severely developmentally disabled residents of a residential facility were tested on the Assessment of Basic Learning Abilities (ABLA) test and the test of auditory matching. Results extend the predictive validity of the auditory matching test beyond the results reported by J. G. Walker et al (see record 1994-35818-001). Results show that the auditory matching test is a good predictor of residents' ability to match common sounds and live-to-taped speech sounds. Differences emerged between the difficulty of matching live-to-taped speech sounds vs live-to-live speech sounds. Results are discussed in terms of a behavioral analysis of the characteristics of the various tasks. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
