Abstract

Several initiatives have shown the potentials of applying AI techniques to ambient intelligence in general and ambient assisted living in particular. While these systems succeed in adding “intelligence” to systems, they do not provide the extensibility and openness of products ready for the market. In this paper, we present the SOPRANO approach, which is based on a combination of ontologybased techniques and a service-oriented device architecture. In this approach, we focus on separating different aspects of the system like sensors & actuators, context information, and system behaviour, and provide a framework that clearly defines contracts for different solution contributors utilising semantic technologies.
