Prophecy and the Monarchy in Haggai and Zechariah.

Abstract

The article presents a study on the view of monarchy in the Books of Haggai and Zechariah. It looks at the relationship between prophecy and political powers in the postexilic collections of Haggai and Zecharia and highlights the evolution of thinking starting with Haggai. Other topics discussed include the hopes postexilic Judah experiences from Persia and perceived failures of the Davidides. A historical overview of the period from the siege of Jerusalem until 520 B.C.E. is given.
