Conceptual modeling relates to all areas of computer science, but especially to artificial intelligence, databases, and programming languages. Here is the first collection of state-of-the-art research papers that addresses conceptual modeling in these three areas. Its purpose is to consider conceptual modeling as a topic in its own right, rather than in the context of any one area alone. It also presents and compares research on knowledge representation, semantic data models, and data abstraction in this broader framework.
