. Against the Grain, vol.19, no.2, pp.88-89, 19 (2): 88-89 (April 2007)

Abstract

Explores several of the open source integrated library systems (ILS) that are available and their potential as an alternative to commercial ILS. Looks at the perceived advantages of open source software over commercial software, as well as their potential disadvantages. Examples of open source ILS are Avanti MicroLCS from Peter Schlumpf, Emilda from Finnish software company Realnode Ltd., Evergreen from the Georgia Public Library Service and the Georgia Library Public Information Network for Electronic Services (PINES), and Learning Access ILS from the Learning Access Institute.
