Physically and mentally handicapped child in dental practice

, and .
Rev Cubana Estomatol, 26 (4): 255--267 (1989)

Abstract

In every infant population there is a group of children whose physical and mental status gives rise to a tendency to being rejected in the stomatological practice, either because of fear, or due to lack of knowledge about their personal conditions, their handicaps, the possible complications that could be caused by their treatment and the management of those complications. Aiming at exploring this rather difficult field, some general considerations about these children are dealt with, as well as the possible treatments to be carried out by general stomatologists in primary care and the preventive measures to be taken into account to achieve optimal results.
