Abstract

Aim of the report is the identification of hydro-geological conditions at the Municipality of Pythagoreion, as well as the current condition of water supply. The report focuses on the basin of Imbrassos and the rich amount of sources that are located within this area.

This report gives valuable information on water tables and hydrogeology. The aspect of groundwater recharge does not seem to have been addressed explicitl but can be reconstructed from data provided. The water table map for the alluvial aquifer is a key reference for the development of a groundwater model. An interesting result is the apparently high groundwater recharge and groundwater inflow from the tributary west of Chora. A large depression cone is found in the alluvial aquifer probably due to groundwater abstraction for irrigation. The report and map also show that the carbonate aquifer north West of Myloi along the Imbrassos is block downstream by a low permeable schist providing a stable outflow. The information that groundwater systems in the marble are dissected is important as this increases vulnerability during drought.
