Abstract

Publisher Summary Color displays are used together with computers in many applications that have nothing to do with color, and where color is used only as an organizing category for the display of information. But color displays are also important tools in all fields of color design, color reproduction, color science and other color technologies. This chapter treats the color display mainly as a tool for the generation of specified colors or color patterns. The chapter discusses the spatial and temporal structure, pixels, lines and their relation to spatial and temporal resolution. A description of the most important types of color display follows, concluding with a perspective to future display technologies. It also discusses the problems connected with display calibration and specification of the colors on a display in different color systems. The chapter also deals with applications of color displays and describes problems characteristic for these applications.
