Abstract
Metadata, Linked (open) Data and ontologies are a part of the complex galaxy of communication languages for web. Being supported by modern information technologies, these languages aimed at reassuring greater visibility, dissemination and sharing of content and, consequently, optimization and rationalization of services such as, for example, digital libraries and archives. Metadata, ontologies and Linked (open) Data, combined together, represent a fundamental starting point for determining the new search methods of the semantic web. Reviewing some existing experiences and initiatives of 'new performance' of data in the digital environment, the paper tries to lead the reader to discover a new way of knowledge creation that can be operated at different levels in every field of human action and, especially, in the scientific and socio-cultural fields.
