While many resources for networks of interesting entities are emerging, most of these can only annotate connections in a limited fashion. Although relationships between entities are rich, it is impractical to manually devise complete characterizations of these relationships for every pair of entities on large, real-world corpora. In this paper we present a novel probabilistic topic model to analyze text corpora and infer descriptions of its entities and of relationships between those entities. We develop variational methods for performing approximate inference on our model and demonstrate that our model can be practically deployed on large corpora such as Wikipedia. We show qualitatively and quantitatively that our model can construct and annotate graphs of relationships and make useful predictions.</swrc:abstract><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="Paris, France" swrc:key="location"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="978-1-60558-495-9" swrc:key="isbn"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="http://doi.acm.org/10.1145/1557019.1557044" swrc:key="doi"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Jonathan Chang"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Jordan Boyd-Graber"/></rdf:_2><rdf:_3><swrc:Person swrc:name="David M. The study confirms that these learners had high levels of access to Web 2.0 technologies and that Web 2.0 activities were prolific. However, patterns of use were complex. The types of activity evidenced by the study suggest that learners can be categorised into four main groups: (1) researchers: mainly in terms of reading with little evidence of critical enquiry or analytical awareness; (2) collaborators: mainly with respect to file sharing, gaming and communicating; (3) producers and (4) publishers: mainly in terms of sharing experience through social networking sites. Whilst most expressed an interest in using online technologies to support familiar school activities, such as presentations or for communication, learners seemed cautious about other values associated with Web 2.0 tools, such as the shared construction of knowledge in a public format. Few learners were familiar with the complete spectrum of Web 2.0 activities and only a small number were engaging in more sophisticated activities, such as producing and publishing self-created content for wider consumption. There was little evidence of groundbreaking activities and only a few embryonic signs of criticality, self-management or metacognitive reflection. The paper concludes that these higher order thinking skills need to be encouraged and supported in any attempt to use Web 2.0 for learning in formal education. </swrc:abstract><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="1743-9884" swrc:key="issn"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Rosemary Luckin"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Wilma Clark"/></rdf:_2><rdf:_3><swrc:Person swrc:name="Rebecca Graber"/></rdf:_3><rdf:_4><swrc:Person swrc:name="Kit Logan"/></rdf:_4><rdf:_5><swrc:Person swrc:name="Adrian Mee"/></rdf:_5><rdf:_6><swrc:Person swrc:name="Martin Oliver"/></rdf:_6></rdf:Seq></swrc:author></rdf:Description></burst:publication>

Syntactic Topic Models.

<dc:subject>dblp </dc:subject>
<span style="color:#555555;">Jordan L. <a href="http://www.bibsonomy.org/author/Boyd-Graber">Boyd-Graber</a> and David M. <a href="http://www.bibsonomy.org/author/Blei">Blei</a> </span><em>NIPS, </em><em>page 185-192. </em><em>MIT Press, </em>(<em>2008</em>)
<taxo:topics><rdf:Bag><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/dblp"/></rdf:Bag></taxo:topics><burst:publication><rdf:Description rdf:about="http://www.bibsonomy.org/bibtex/2b58248b30e3c47dd367117e9ace7555f/dblp"><owl:sameAs rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/uri/bibtex/2b58248b30e3c47dd367117e9ace7555f/dblp"/><rdf:type rdf:resource="http://swrc.ontoware.org/ontology#InProceedings"/><owl:sameAs rdf:resource="http://dblp.uni-trier.de/db/conf/nips/nips2008.html#Boyd-GraberB08"/><swrc:date>Thu Jul 02 00:00:00 CEST 2009</swrc:date><swrc:booktitle>NIPS</swrc:booktitle><swrc:crossref>conf/nips/2008</swrc:crossref><swrc:pages>185-192</swrc:pages><swrc:publisher><swrc:Organization swrc:name="MIT Press"/></swrc:publisher><swrc:title>Syntactic Topic Models.</swrc:title><swrc:year>2008</swrc:year><swrc:keywords>dblp </swrc:keywords><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="http://books.nips.cc/papers/files/nips21/NIPS2008_0319.pdf" swrc:key="ee"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="2009-07-02" swrc:key="date"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Jordan L. The results showed that 74% of the children surveyed have used social network (SN) sites and that a substantial minority regularly interact socially online with people they have not met face-to-face. Online interaction forms a different, although overlapping, social space to that of face-to-face friendships. Despite a desire from some teachers to explore the benefits of Web 2.0 for creative and social learning, they report being constrained by a need to show a duty of care that avoids worst-case risk to children, to restrict access to SN sites. The respondents also report more direct concerns about Internet bullying and exam cheating. We also report a Policy Delphi process with a panel of 30 people with expertise in Web 2.0 and e-safety. The panel reached a general consensus that schools should move towards allowing access to Web 2.0 sites, with children being educated in responsible and creative learning.</swrc:abstract><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="10.1111/j.1365-2729.2008.00304.x" swrc:key="doi"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Michael Sharples"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="R. We measure publications both in units of Top 5 journals and in units of the European Economic Review (EER). We find that the average age of a professor in the year of his first appointment in Germany in the period of 1970 to 2005 is 38. This is approximately 8 years after the PhD. He has 1.5 "standardized" Top 5 papers or 2.2 "standardized" EER papers, i.e. written with one coauthor and of 20 pages length. Results vary across subfields and over time. Someone aiming for a tenured job after 2010 should by then (average over all fields) have 3.3 standardized Top 5 papers or 5 standardized EER papers
