The rapid growth of the volume of pathway data has spurred the development of databases and computational tools to aid interpretation; however, use of these data is hampered by the current fragmentation of pathway information across many databases with incompatible formats. BioPAX, which was created through a community process, solves this problem by making pathway data substantially easier to collect, index, interpret and share. BioPAX can represent metabolic and signaling pathways, molecular and genetic interactions and gene regulation networks. Using BioPAX, millions of interactions, organized into thousands of pathways, from many organisms are available from a growing number of databases. This large amount of pathway data in a computable form will support visualization, analysis and biological discovery.</swrc:abstract><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="10.1038/nbt.1666" swrc:key="doi"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Emek Demir"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Michael P. Bacteriologic and epidemiologic data collected over the past 30 years have consistently established the importance of Group A Neisseria meningitidis as the dominant etiologic agent. The meningococcal Group A capsule is the major virulence factor; it is a polysaccharide comprised of a repeating unit of partly O-acetylated alpha-1,6-linked N-acetylmannosamine phosphate. Meningitis epidemics occur annually during the dry season {(January} to May) and stop with the first rains. Until now, control of these meningitis epidemics has relied on a reactive vaccination strategy with polysaccharide vaccines that is logistically complicated and has not put an end to recurrent epidemics. A meningococcal A conjugate vaccine {(MenAfriVac)} has been developed and tested in Phase {II} clinical trials in Africa. The vaccine has been shown to be safe and to generate a sustained immunologic response with functional antibody 20 times higher than that seen with polysaccharide vaccine. Widespread use of such a vaccine is likely to generate herd immunity and to put an end to Group A meningococcal epidemics.</swrc:abstract><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="1873-2518" swrc:key="issn"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="Epidemic meningitis due to Group A Neisseria meningitidis in the African meningitis belt" swrc:key="shorttitle"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="10.1016/j.vaccine.2009.04.062" swrc:key="doi"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="F Marc {LaForce}"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Neil Ravenscroft"/></rdf:_2><rdf:_3><swrc:Person swrc:name="Mamoudou Djingarey"/></rdf:_3><rdf:_4><swrc:Person swrc:name="Simonetta Viviani"/></rdf:_4></rdf:Seq></swrc:author></rdf:Description></burst:publication>

Designing for Motivation in TEL: Relevance, Meaning and Value in Context

<dc:subject>aps fzi ipe matureip motivation myown workshop </dc:subject>
Andrew Ravenscroft, Andreas Schmidt, and John Cook First Workshop on Motivational and Affective Aspects in Technology-Enhanced Learning, ECTEL 2010, Barcelona, September 28, 2010, (2010)
<taxo:topics><rdf:Bag><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/aps"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/fzi"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/ipe"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/matureip"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/motivation"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/myown"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/workshop"/></rdf:Bag></taxo:topics><burst:publication><rdf:Description rdf:about="http://www.bibsonomy.org/bibtex/2caf2f4cafb11fe8ef5d0a7aade266792/aschmidt"><owl:sameAs rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/uri/bibtex/2caf2f4cafb11fe8ef5d0a7aade266792/aschmidt"/><rdf:type rdf:resource="http://swrc.ontoware.org/ontology#InProceedings"/><owl:sameAs rdf:resource="http://mature-ip.eu/files/matel10/ravenscroft.pdf"/><swrc:date>Tue Feb 01 23:30:40 CET 2011</swrc:date><swrc:booktitle>First Workshop on Motivational and Affective Aspects in Technology-Enhanced Learning, ECTEL 2010, Barcelona, September 28, 2010</swrc:booktitle><swrc:title>Designing for Motivation in TEL: Relevance, Meaning and Value in Context</swrc:title><swrc:year>2010</swrc:year><swrc:keywords>aps fzi ipe matureip motivation myown workshop </swrc:keywords><swrc:abstract>Given the increasingly pervasive and important role of the net in our
everyday lives, along with the many practices it mediates and supports, it is becoming crucial that we consider the role of motivation in TEL. This will help us to ensure that our TEL innovations are adopted, and their related learning
activities are favoured, supported and realised in the digital landscape - and not avoided because our focus lies elsewhere or there are simply too many other things to do. And yet, motivation is poorly understood and usually not considered in the design of TEL. In addressing this issue (of motivation) this paper will reflect on perspectives from Psychology, Serious Games and Social
Software, before proposing some initial ideas for designing for motivation. The arising design ideas that have initially been applied to the development of Digital Dialogue Games are now being articulated within a larger scale EU Integrated Project called MATURE, that is particularly challenged to design
informal learning and knowledge maturing in the Web 2.0 workplace.</swrc:abstract><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Andrew Ravenscroft"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Andreas Schmidt"/></rdf:_2><rdf:_3><swrc:Person swrc:name="John Cook"/></rdf:_3></rdf:Seq></swrc:author><swrc:editor><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Andreas Schmidt"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Simone Braun"/></rdf:_2><rdf:_3><swrc:Person swrc:name="Ulrike Cress"/></rdf:_3><rdf:_4><swrc:Person swrc:name="Teresa Holocher-Ertl"/></rdf:_4><rdf:_5><swrc:Person swrc:name="Christine Kunzmann"/></rdf:_5><rdf:_6><swrc:Person swrc:name="Athanasios Mazarakis"/></rdf:_6></rdf:Seq></swrc:editor></rdf:Description></burst:publication>

Designing Complex Systems for Informal Learning and Knowledge Maturing in the ‘Web 2.0 workplace’

<dc:subject>aps conference design_process from:aschmidt fzi ipe lang:en learning matureip maturing myown </dc:subject>
Andrew Ravenscroft, Andreas Schmidt, and John Cook Proceedings of International Conference on Educational Media Ed-Media 2010, Toronto, June 29-July 2, (2010)
<taxo:topics><rdf:Bag><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/aps"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/conference"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/design_process"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/from:aschmidt"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/fzi"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/ipe"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/lang:en"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/learning"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/matureip"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/maturing"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/myown"/></rdf:Bag></taxo:topics><burst:publication><rdf:Description rdf:about="http://www.bibsonomy.org/bibtex/2ec9b9ca5bbd853420760b2ccb5a94406/mature"><owl:sameAs rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/uri/bibtex/2ec9b9ca5bbd853420760b2ccb5a94406/mature"/><rdf:type rdf:resource="http://swrc.ontoware.org/ontology#InProceedings"/><owl:sameAs rdf:resource="http://publications.andreas.schmidt.name/Ravenscroft_Schmidt_Cook_EDMEDIA2010.pdf"/><swrc:date>Tue Feb 01 23:27:37 CET 2011</swrc:date><swrc:booktitle>Proceedings of International Conference on Educational Media (Ed-Media) 2010, Toronto, June 29-July 2</swrc:booktitle><swrc:title>Designing Complex Systems for Informal Learning and Knowledge Maturing in the ‘Web 2.0 workplace’</swrc:title><swrc:year>2010</swrc:year><swrc:keywords>aps conference design_process from:aschmidt fzi ipe lang:en learning matureip maturing myown </swrc:keywords><swrc:abstract>This article presents an original approach to designing complex systems to realise informal learning and knowledge maturing that is being conducted as part of a large-scale EC project called MATURE. In addressing the challenge of designing work integrated Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) systems within the ‘web 2.0 workplace’, we have developed and tested an agile and ‘federated’ approach to the

design of complex social and semantic technologies. This follows a paradigm of Deep Learning Design that incorporates: early technical and conceptual Design Studies; Use Cases of envisaged scenarios; Demonstrators which synthesise the technical and user

development. However, there is widespread debate as to the forms and content of educational
dialogue and the roles participants should play in them. In addressing these issues we have
adopted an approach of 'investigation by design'. Based on an examination of dialogue from
case studies of tutoring in physics, we have abstracted a semi-natural set of dialogue moves
thought to be effective, and designed them into system-user interaction scenarios aimed at
supporting learning. This approach focuses on patterns of interaction emerging as possibly
effective and refines them to render them computationally tractable. For this we adopt dialogue
game theory as a design paradigm. Debating style dialogue games are applied according to a
formal pedagogic framework called 'learning as knowledge refinement'. This specifies a
collaborative framework for argumentation aimed at stimulating belief revision, and conceptual
change. In this framework the learner adopts the role of an 'explainer' whilst the system plays a
facilitating role and these participants collaborate to develop a shared explanatory model of a
qualitative physics domain. A prototype CoLLeGE (Computer based Lab for Language Games
in Education) system implements the framework and validates the model. An empirical study
using CoLLeGE demonstrates the educational potential of the approach.}</swrc:abstract><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="2006-01-12 14:13:31" swrc:key="posted-at"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="0" swrc:key="priority"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="463060" swrc:key="citeulike-article-id"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="http://aied.inf.ed.ac.uk/members00/archive/vol\_11/ravenscroft/paper.pdf" swrc:key="citeulike-linkout-0"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="A. In this paper we describe a collaborative, computer-based framework for argumentation that supports the dialogue process in ways which stimulate belief revision leading to conceptual change and development in science. This pedagogy is specified as a prescriptive 'dialogue game', which models features of the tutorial process. Within this scheme, the learner adopts the role of an 'explainer' whilst the system plays a facilitating role, and these participants collaborate to develop a shared explanatory model of a qualitative, causal domain. The design framework includes an abstract world model of a qualitative causal system, some 'commonsense' reasoning rules, an interaction language and dialogue strategies and tactics, that are co-ordinated within a facilitating dialogue game. A prototype CoLLeGE (Computer based Lab for Language Games in Education) system implements the framework and operates as a dialogue modelling work-bench for demonstrating, investigating and developing the approach. An empirical study showed that students revised their beliefs and improved their explanatory models, and held to their revised and improved conceptions in a delayed post-test. In using CoLLeGE to simulate these dialogues, we found that the tutor's low-level tactical pedagogies emerged and developed reactively during the dialogues, in response to conceptual difficulties experienced by the students.}</swrc:abstract><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="2006-01-09 10:34:34" swrc:key="posted-at"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="0" swrc:key="priority"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="460108" swrc:key="citeulike-article-id"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/B6VCJ-40KS8FY-7/2/00fbe1e5b7aa00b8f9e3291b9e9b23d1" swrc:key="citeulike-linkout-1"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/S0360-1315(99)00048-2" swrc:key="citeulike-linkout-0"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="10.1016/S0360-1315(99)00048-2" swrc:key="doi"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Andrew Ravenscroft"/></rdf:_1></rdf:Seq></swrc:author></rdf:Description></burst:publication>

Gramene: a growing plant comparative genomics resource.

<dc:subject>dblp </dc:subject>
Chengzhi Liang, Pankaj Jaiswal, Claire Hebbard, Shuly Avraham, Edward S.
