has experienced rising popularity among Web users in recent years.
The product of such activity is given the name folksonomy, which
can be considered as a scheme of organizing information in the users'
own way. This research work attempts to analyze tripartite graphs
- graphs involving users, tags and resources - of folksonomies and
discuss how these elements acquire their semantics through their
associations with other elements, a process we call mutual contextualization.
By studying such process, we try to identify solutions to problems
such as tag disambiguation, retrieving documents of similar topics
and discovering communities of users. This paper describes the basis

The product of such activity is given the name folksonomy, which can be considered as a scheme of organizing information in the users' own way. In this paper, we present a possible way to analyze the tripartite graphs - graphs involving users, tags and resources - of folksonomies and discuss how these elements acquire their meanings through their associations with other elements, a process we call mutual contextualization. In particular, we demonstrate how different meanings of ambiguous tags can be discovered through such analysis of the tripartite graph by studying the tag sf. We also discuss how the result can be used as a basis to better understand the nature of folksonomies.</swrc:abstract><swrc:author>

of distributed data sources. Transferring this technology from the
lab environment into the real world requires careful planning to
ensure the technology continues to offer a cost-effective and practical
service. The authors describe an approach for promoting Semantic
Web technology to industrial and government organizations. They present
two Semantic Web applications: one involving several parts of government
and the public sector, and the other targeting the aviation industry.
Their goal is to show these organizations how to practically and
relatively cheaply adopt Semantic Web technology for the dissemination,
sharing, and use of their data. The applications demonstrate examples
of immediate benefit. This article is part of a special issue called
Semantic Web Update.</swrc:abstract><swrc:hasExtraField>

Our two experimental systems, Quickstep and Foxtrot, create user profiles from unobtrusively monitored behaviour and relevance feedback, representing the profiles in terms of a research paper topic ontology. A novel profile visualization approach is taken to acquire profile feedback. Research papers are classified using ontological classes and collaborative recommendation algorithms used to recommend papers seen by similar people on their current topics of interest. Two small-scale experiments, with 24 subjects over 3 months, and a large-scale experiment, with 260 subjects over an academic year, are conducted to evaluate different aspects of our approach. Ontological inference is shown to improve user profiling, external ontological knowledge used to successfully bootstrap a recommender system and profile visualization employed to improve profiling accuracy. The overall performance of our ontological recommender systems are also presented and favourably compared to other systems in the literature.</swrc:abstract><swrc:hasExtraField>
