By intranet search, we mean searching for information on an intranet within an organization. We have found that search needs on an intranet can be categorized into types, through an analysis of survey results and an analysis of search log data. The types include searching for definitions, persons, experts, and homepages. Traditional information retrieval only focuses on search of relevant documents, but not on search of special types of information. We propose a new approach to intranet search in which we search for information in each of the special types, in addition to the traditional relevance search. Information extraction technologies can play key roles in such kind of 'search by type' approach, because we must first extract from the documents the necessary information in each type. We have developed an intranet search system called 'Information Desk'. In the system, we try to address the most important types of search first - finding term definitions, homepages of groups or topics, employees' personal information and experts on topics. For each type of search, we use information extraction technologies to extract, fuse, and summarize information in advance. The system is in operation on the intranet of Microsoft and receives accesses from about 500 employees per month. Feedbacks from users and system logs show that users consider the approach useful and the system can really help people to find information. This paper describes the architecture, features, component technologies, and evaluation results of the system.</swrc:abstract><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="Bremen, Germany" swrc:key="location"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="1-59593-140-6" swrc:key="isbn"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="http://doi.acm.org/10.1145/1099554.1099685" swrc:key="doi"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Hang Li"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Yunbo Cao"/></rdf:_2><rdf:_3><swrc:Person swrc:name="Jun Xu"/></rdf:_3><rdf:_4><swrc:Person swrc:name="Yunhua Hu"/></rdf:_4><rdf:_5><swrc:Person swrc:name="Shenjie Li"/></rdf:_5><rdf:_6><swrc:Person swrc:name="Dmitriy Meyerzon"/></rdf:_6></rdf:Seq></swrc:author></rdf:Description></burst:publication>

Ein Wiki als Intranet bei PSI

<dc:subject>intranet casestudy psi enterprise2.0 wiki knowledgemanagement socialsoftware </dc:subject>
<span style="color:#555555;">Peter <a href="http://www.bibsonomy.org/author/Dibbern">Dibbern</a> This limits the amount and quality of anchor text, one of the major factors used by Internet search engines, making intranet search more difficult. The social phenomenon at play also means that spam is relatively rare. Both on the Internet and in intranets, users are often willing to cooperate with the search engine in improving the search experience. These characteristics naturally lead to considering using user feedback to improve search quality in intranets. In this paper we show how a particular form of feedback, namely user annotations, can be used to improve the quality of intranet search. An annotation is a short description of the contents of a web page, which can be considered a substitute for anchor text. We propose two ways to obtain user annotations, using explicit and implicit feedback, and show how they can be integrated into a search engine. Preliminary experiments on the IBM intranet demonstrate that using annotations improves the search quality.</swrc:abstract><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="1087440" swrc:key="id"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="3" swrc:key="priority"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="1595933239" swrc:key="isbn"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="10.1145/1135777.1135900" swrc:key="doi"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Pavel A. We hypothesize that such a tool would be valuable for information sharing, information management, and social networking in our organization. In order to assess the value of social software, we have embarked upon a 6-month pilot, or trial period, where we are striving to reach critical mass through marketing strategies and targeting influential figures with large, social networks.
