perspective on the impacts of trade reforms on rural economies and
migration for five Central American countries (Costa Rica, El Salvador,
Honduras, Guatemala, and Nicaragua) that are negotiating the Central
American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) with the United States. Potential
migration and welfare impacts of agricultural provisions in CAFTA
depend on market integration, diversification of economic strategies,
and government policies. Conclusions highlight the importance of
product mixes, technologies, and labor markets in shaping outcomes
of trade policy reforms.</swrc:abstract><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="S.M. Materer"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="J.E. and other members of the New York art world helped transform
popular understandings of what it might mean for human beings
to work alongside information machines. This article shows how.
Drawing on archival research, interviews and a survey of secondary
sources, it follows Cage and Rauschenberg from Black Mountain
College into their 1960s collaboration with engineers from Bell
Laboratories in an organization called Experiments in Art and
Technology (or E.A.T.). It then shows how, in 1970, at a Manhattan
mansion packed with electronic media and christened ‘Automation
House’, E.A.T. modeled a fusion of artistic collaboration and
automated labor for the captains of American industry. In the process,
the article concludes, E.A.T. helped set the stage for a re-imagining of
computing in the workplace as a bohemian practice and of computers
as tools for creative, peer-to-peer collaboration.</swrc:abstract><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Fred Turner"/></rdf:_1></rdf:Seq></swrc:author></rdf:Description></burst:publication><description>Artikel ist als Volltext über die Nationallizenzen von Sage Publications zugänglich</description></item><item rdf:about="http://www.bibsonomy.org/bibtex/28a167a488aa951798ce76dd5900fbcbc/jomiralb"><title>Life histories in cyberspace: life writing as a development tool

used as a development tool. For example, a recent innovative experiment
by the FIDAMERICA development cybernetwork (sponsored by IFAD, the
International Fund for Agricultural Development) in Latin America
used an electronic network to collect, post and discuss rural women&#039;s
life histories, intending to support gender mainstreaming in IFAD
projects. However, cybernetworking processes can also reflect contradictory
agendas and power relations that ultimately make them a site of contestation.
In the FIDAMERICA case, the authors did not participate in the electronic
conference, nor were there any subsequent efforts to connect them
or to develop this process further. In this paper, I argue that the
analysis of increasingly complex cybernetworked development efforts
must incorporate a correspondingly sophisticated technique that can
	uncover the nuanced relations of transnational cyber communication;
and I propose that an actor-network approach should be investigated
as an analytical framework in these cases. I then apply this approach
to the case study, using field research conducted with the participants
of the FIDAMERICA electronic life history project in Central America.
I conclude that an actor-network approach is a fruitful means by
	which these processes can be both understood and improved.</swrc:abstract><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="2007.08.02" swrc:key="timestamp"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="oriol" swrc:key="owner"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Donna D.
