Despite recent advances in document corpus visualization research, there is still a lack of principled approaches which enable the users to personalize the exploratory analysis process. In this paper, we present IVEA (Information Visualization for Exploratory Document Collection Analysis), an innovative visualization tool which employs the PIMO (Personal Information Model) ontology to provide the knowledge workers with an interactive interface allowing them to browse for information in a personalized manner. Not only does the tool allow the users to integrate their personal knowledge into the exploration and analysis of a document collection, it also enables them to incrementally enrich their PIMO ontologies with new entities matching their evolving interests in the process, benefiting the users not only in their future experience with IVEA but also with other PIMO-based applications. The usability of the tool was preliminarily evaluated and the results were sufficiently encouraging to make it worthwhile to conduct a larger-scale usability study.</swrc:abstract><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="VinhTuan Thai"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Siegfried Handschuh"/></rdf:_2><rdf:_3><swrc:Person swrc:name="Stefan Decker"/></rdf:_3></rdf:Seq></swrc:author><swrc:editor><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Manfred Hauswirth"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Manolis Koubarakis"/></rdf:_2><rdf:_3><swrc:Person swrc:name="Sean Bechhofer"/></rdf:_3></rdf:Seq></swrc:editor></rdf:Description></burst:publication>

KonneX-SALT: First Steps towards a Semantic Claim Federation Infrastructure

<dc:subject>mypub smilegroup conference 2008 semanticauthoring </dc:subject>
Tudor Groza and Siegfried Handschuh and Knud Möller and Stefan Decker Proceedings of the 5th European Semantic Web Conference, Berlin, Heidelberg, Springer Verlag, June2008.
<taxo:topics><rdf:Bag><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/mypub"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/smilegroup"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/conference"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/2008"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/semanticauthoring"/></rdf:Bag></taxo:topics><burst:publication><rdf:Description rdf:about="http://www.bibsonomy.org/bibtex/27e0e8278793cb68e516ee4a564445bd9/siggi"><owl:sameAs rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/uri/bibtex/27e0e8278793cb68e516ee4a564445bd9/siggi"/><rdf:type rdf:resource="http://swrc.ontoware.org/ontology#InProceedings"/><owl:sameAs rdf:resource="http://data.semanticweb.org/conference/eswc/2008/papers/209"/><swrc:date>Sat Jun 14 20:31:00 CEST 2008</swrc:date><swrc:address>Berlin, Heidelberg</swrc:address><swrc:booktitle>Proceedings of the 5th European Semantic Web Conference</swrc:booktitle><swrc:month>June</swrc:month><swrc:publisher><swrc:Organization swrc:name="Springer Verlag"/></swrc:publisher><swrc:series>LNCS</swrc:series><swrc:title>KonneX-SALT: First Steps towards a Semantic Claim Federation Infrastructure</swrc:title><swrc:year>2008</swrc:year><swrc:keywords>mypub smilegroup conference 2008 semanticauthoring </swrc:keywords><swrc:abstract>Dissemination, an important phase of scientific research, can be seen as a communication process between scientists. They expose and support their findings, while discussing claims stated in related scientific publications. However, due to the increasing number of publications, finding a starting point for such a discussion represents a real challenge. At same time, browsing can also be difficult since the communication spans across multiple publications on the open web. In this paper we propose a semantic claim federation infrastructure, named KonneX-SALT, as a solution for both issues mentioned above: (i) finding claims in scientific publications, and (ii) building the argumentation discourse network (ADN) for each claim and providing support for browsing it (in our case, by making use of transclusion). In addition, we join the web of "linked open data", by linking the metadata managed by KonneX-SALT with some of the known repositories of scientific publications.</swrc:abstract><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Tudor Groza"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Siegfried Handschuh"/></rdf:_2><rdf:_3><swrc:Person swrc:name="Knud Möller"/></rdf:_3><rdf:_4><swrc:Person swrc:name="Stefan Decker"/></rdf:_4></rdf:Seq></swrc:author><swrc:editor><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Manfred Hauswirth"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Manolis Koubarakis"/></rdf:_2><rdf:_3><swrc:Person swrc:name="Sean Bechhofer"/></rdf:_3></rdf:Seq></swrc:editor></rdf:Description></burst:publication>

Semantic Email as a communication medium for the Social Semantic Desktop

<dc:subject>semanticdesktop conference 2008 smilegroup </dc:subject>
Simon Scerri and Siegfried Handschuh and Stefan Decker Proceedings of the 5th European Semantic Web Conference, Berlin, Heidelberg, Springer Verlag, June2008.
<taxo:topics><rdf:Bag><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/semanticdesktop"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/conference"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/2008"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/smilegroup"/></rdf:Bag></taxo:topics><burst:publication><rdf:Description rdf:about="http://www.bibsonomy.org/bibtex/20702addea22ce6b1b90eccffef1b9397/siggi"><owl:sameAs rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/uri/bibtex/20702addea22ce6b1b90eccffef1b9397/siggi"/><rdf:type rdf:resource="http://swrc.ontoware.org/ontology#InProceedings"/><owl:sameAs rdf:resource="http://data.semanticweb.org/conference/eswc/2008/papers/325"/><swrc:date>Sat Jun 14 20:22:04 CEST 2008</swrc:date><swrc:address>Berlin, Heidelberg</swrc:address><swrc:booktitle>Proceedings of the 5th European Semantic Web Conference</swrc:booktitle><swrc:month>June</swrc:month><swrc:publisher><swrc:Organization swrc:name="Springer Verlag"/></swrc:publisher><swrc:series>LNCS</swrc:series><swrc:title>Semantic Email as a communication medium for the Social Semantic Desktop</swrc:title><swrc:year>2008</swrc:year><swrc:keywords>semanticdesktop conference 2008 smilegroup </swrc:keywords><swrc:abstract>In this paper, we introduce a formal email workflow model based on traditional email, which enables the user to define and execute ad-hoc workflows in an intuitive way. This model paves the way for semantic annotation of implicit, well-defined workflows, thus making them explicit and exposing the missing information in a machine processable way. Grounding this work within the Social Semantic Desktop [1] via appropriate ontologies means that this information can be exploited for the benefit of the user. This will have a direct impact on their personal information management - given email is not just a major channel of data exchange between desktops, but it also serves as a virtual working environment where people collaborate. Thus the presented workflow model will have a concrete manifestation in the creation, organization and exchange of semantic desktop data.</swrc:abstract><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Simon Scerri"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Siegfried Handschuh"/></rdf:_2><rdf:_3><swrc:Person swrc:name="Stefan Decker"/></rdf:_3></rdf:Seq></swrc:author><swrc:editor><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Manfred Hauswirth"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Manolis Koubarakis"/></rdf:_2><rdf:_3><swrc:Person swrc:name="Sean Bechhofer"/></rdf:_3></rdf:Seq></swrc:editor></rdf:Description></burst:publication>

Review and Alignmnet of Tag Ontologies for Semantically-Linked Data in Collaborative Tagging Spaces

<dc:subject>scot tagging conference ontologies sioc folksonomies me stateoftheart moat </dc:subject>
Hak Lae Kim are in Beijing for a special conference. On the agenda are deeper
cooperation, closer dialogue, and how to present China to the world.
	Guan Xin has this story.

Delegates from more than 41 Chinese-language TV media outlets from
22 countries and regions around the world have participated in the
conference. They discussed how to improve their work and better introduce
China to the world, especially with the advent of the Beijing Olympics.

Delegates agreed to cooperate more to increase their global influence.
They suggested establishing a regular dialogue mechanism to facilitate
	that cooperation.

Huang Jieping, Board Chairman, World Today TV Corp., said, "The Beijing
Olympics is the best opportunity. When the whole world has its eyes
on China, we can take advantage of the opportunity to introduce the
	real China."

Over the past two years, overseas Chinese-language TV media have broadcast
more than 3-thousand news and feature programs on the lives of overseas
Chinese people. They have also taken an active part in reporting

Children with dyslexia have special learning needs (e.g., more teacher support), which currently only specialized institutions can provide. However, this takes children out of their peer group and causes social problems. On the other side, there is general-purpose reading support software, which is not geared towards children with dyslexia as they lack personalization. AGENT-DYSL brings together speech and image recognition as well as semantic technologies to build a truly adaptive reading support system for children with dyslexia.</swrc:abstract><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="http://publications.andreas.schmidt.name/ICALT_08_tsouveli_schmidt_agentdysl.pdf" swrc:key="pdf"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Paraskevi Tzouveli"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Andreas Schmidt"/></rdf:_2><rdf:_3><swrc:Person swrc:name="Michael Schneider"/></rdf:_3><rdf:_4><swrc:Person swrc:name="Antonis Symvonis"/></rdf:_4><rdf:_5><swrc:Person swrc:name="Stefanos Kollias"/></rdf:_5></rdf:Seq></swrc:author></rdf:Description></burst:publication>

People Tagging & Ontology Maturing: Towards Collaborative Competence Management

<dc:subject>conference ontology_maturing lang:en fzi competence folksonomy aps ipe competence_management </dc:subject>
Simone Braun and Andreas Schmidt 8th International Conference on the Design of Cooperative Systems (COOP '08), Carry-le-Rouet, France, May 20-23, 2008, (2008)
<taxo:topics><rdf:Bag><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/conference"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/ontology_maturing"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/lang:en"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/fzi"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/competence"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/folksonomy"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/aps"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/ipe"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/competence_management"/></rdf:Bag></taxo:topics><burst:publication><rdf:Description rdf:about="http://www.bibsonomy.org/bibtex/258e7df8f8dfc868ff5f75080fd993a38/aschmidt"><owl:sameAs rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/uri/bibtex/258e7df8f8dfc868ff5f75080fd993a38/aschmidt"/><rdf:type rdf:resource="http://swrc.ontoware.org/ontology#InProceedings"/><owl:sameAs rdf:resource="http://publications.andreas.schmidt.name/Braun_Schmidt_CollaborativeCompetenceManagement_COOP08.pdf"/><swrc:date>Fri Apr 25 12:38:00 CEST 2008</swrc:date><swrc:booktitle>8th International Conference on the Design of Cooperative Systems (COOP '08), Carry-le-Rouet, France, May 20-23, 2008</swrc:booktitle><swrc:title>People Tagging & Ontology Maturing: Towards Collaborative Competence Management</swrc:title><swrc:year>2008</swrc:year><swrc:keywords>conference ontology_maturing lang:en fzi competence folksonomy aps ipe competence_management </swrc:keywords><swrc:abstract>Competence Management approaches, aiming at making transparent individual competencies and their relationship to organizational goals, suggest promising instruments for more effective resource allocation, knowledge management, learning support, and human resource development in general. However, especially on the level of individual employees, such approaches have so far not been able to show sustainable success on a larger scale. Piloting applications like expert finders have often failed in the long run because of incomplete and outdated data, apart from social and organizational barriers. This affects both competency profiles of the individual employee and non-adequate and often also outdated competency catalogs used as a vocabulary for the profiles.

To overcome these problems, we propose a collaborative competence management approach. In this approach, we combine Web 2.0-style bottom-up processes with organizational top-down processes: Web 2.0 oriented bottom-up processes allow every employee to participate and contribute with low usage barriers; i.e. by tagging colleagues; the organizational processes take up and guide these bottom-up developments towards organizational goals. Key idea is that we cannot do competence management completely without an agreed vocabulary (or ontology), i.e. the competency catalog, but we have to make the process of evolving this catalog more collaborative and embedded into its actual usage (e.g., while tagging other employees). Likewise, we do not conceive competency profiles as self-descriptions, but rather as results of collective judgments of others.

We approached this problem as a collaborative ontology construction problem of which the conceptual foundation is the Ontology Maturing Process Model. In order to realize the Ontology Maturing Process Model for competence management, we have built the AJAX-based semantic social bookmarking application SOBOLEO that offers task-embedded competence ontology development and an easy-to-use interface.</swrc:abstract><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="http://publications.andreas.schmidt.name/Braun_Schmidt_CollaborativeCompetenceManagement_COOP08.pdf" swrc:key="pdf"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Simone Braun"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Andreas Schmidt"/></rdf:_2></rdf:Seq></swrc:author></rdf:Description></burst:publication>

Roles and scopes of public relations

<dc:subject>conference public_relations PR </dc:subject>
Marcia Watson DiStaso
