Social Semantic Bookmarking combines the positive aspects of semantic annotation with those of social bookmarking and tagging while avoiding their respective drawbacks like the cumbersome maintenance of ontologies or the lacking semantic precision of tags. Social semantic bookmarking tools allow for the annotation of internet resources based on an ontology and the integrated maintenance of the ontology by the same people that use it. We introduce Social Semantic Bookmarking and present the SOBOLEO application as an implementation of this paradigm.</swrc:abstract><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="978-3-540-89446-9" swrc:key="isbn"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="10.1007/978-3-540-89447-6_8" swrc:key="doi"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Simone Braun"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Valentin Zacharias"/></rdf:_2><rdf:_3><swrc:Person swrc:name="Hans-J{\"o}rg Happel"/></rdf:_3></rdf:Seq></swrc:author><swrc:editor><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Takahira Yamaguchi"/></rdf:_1></rdf:Seq></swrc:editor></rdf:Description></burst:publication>

Improving Search and Navigation by Combining Ontologies and Social Tags

<dc:subject>Social Tagging;Ontology;Semantic Web </dc:subject>
Silvia Bindelli, Claudio Criscione, Carlo Curino, Mauro Drago, Davide Eynard, and Giorgio Orsi On the Move to Meaningful Internet Systems: OTM 2008 Workshops, volume 5333 of Lecture Notes in Computer Science, page 76--85. Berlin u.a., Springer, (2008)
<taxo:topics><rdf:Bag><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/Social"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/Tagging;Ontology;Semantic"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/Web"/></rdf:Bag></taxo:topics><burst:publication><rdf:Description rdf:about="http://www.bibsonomy.org/bibtex/23d3cafd0f57f990e950637fd7a1907ed/peter.b825"><owl:sameAs rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/uri/bibtex/23d3cafd0f57f990e950637fd7a1907ed/peter.b825"/><rdf:type rdf:resource="http://swrc.ontoware.org/ontology#InProceedings"/><owl:sameAs rdf:resource="http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-540-88875-8_26"/><swrc:date>Sat Feb 11 19:24:16 CET 2012</swrc:date><swrc:address>Berlin [u.a.]</swrc:address><swrc:booktitle>On the Move to Meaningful Internet Systems: OTM 2008 Workshops</swrc:booktitle><swrc:pages>76--85</swrc:pages><swrc:publisher><swrc:Organization swrc:name="Springer"/></swrc:publisher><swrc:series>Lecture Notes in Computer Science</swrc:series><swrc:title>Improving Search and Navigation by Combining Ontologies and Social Tags</swrc:title><swrc:volume>5333</swrc:volume><swrc:year>2008</swrc:year><swrc:keywords>Social Tagging;Ontology;Semantic Web </swrc:keywords><swrc:abstract>The Semantic Web has the ambitious goal of enabling complex autonomous applications to reason on a machine-processable version of the World Wide Web. This, however, would require a coordinated effort not easily achievable in practice. On the other hand, spontaneous communities, based on social tagging, recently achieved noticeable consensus and diffusion. The goal of the TagOnto system is to bridge between these two realities by automatically mapping (social) tags to more structured domain ontologies, thus, providing assistive, navigational features typical of the Semantic Web. These novel searching and navigational capabilities are complementary to more traditional search engine functionalities. The system, and its intuitive AJAX interface, are released and demonstrated on-line.</swrc:abstract><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="978-3-540-88873-4" swrc:key="isbn"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="10.1007/978-3-540-88875-8_26" swrc:key="doi"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Silvia Bindelli"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Claudio Criscione"/></rdf:_2><rdf:_3><swrc:Person swrc:name="Carlo Curino"/></rdf:_3><rdf:_4><swrc:Person swrc:name="Mauro Drago"/></rdf:_4><rdf:_5><swrc:Person swrc:name="Davide Eynard"/></rdf:_5><rdf:_6><swrc:Person swrc:name="Giorgio Orsi"/></rdf:_6></rdf:Seq></swrc:author><swrc:editor><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Robert Meersman"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Zahir Tari"/></rdf:_2><rdf:_3><swrc:Person swrc:name="Pilar Herrero"/></rdf:_3></rdf:Seq></swrc:editor></rdf:Description></burst:publication>

Semantic Grounding of Tag Relatedness in Social Bookmarking Systems

<dc:subject>Social Tagging;Semantic Web </dc:subject>
Ciro Cattuto, Dominik Benz, Andreas Hotho, and Gerd Stumme The Semantic Web - ISWC 2008, volume 5318 of Lecture Notes in Computer Science, page 615--631. Berlin u.a., Springer, (2008)
<taxo:topics><rdf:Bag><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/Social"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/Tagging;Semantic"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/Web"/></rdf:Bag></taxo:topics><burst:publication><rdf:Description rdf:about="http://www.bibsonomy.org/bibtex/272e33772dff2bb6fe5cac32876e0e2da/peter.b825"><owl:sameAs rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/uri/bibtex/272e33772dff2bb6fe5cac32876e0e2da/peter.b825"/><rdf:type rdf:resource="http://swrc.ontoware.org/ontology#InProceedings"/><owl:sameAs rdf:resource="http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-540-88564-1_39"/><swrc:date>Sat Feb 11 19:24:16 CET 2012</swrc:date><swrc:address>Berlin [u.a.]</swrc:address><swrc:booktitle>The Semantic Web - ISWC 2008</swrc:booktitle><swrc:pages>615--631</swrc:pages><swrc:publisher><swrc:Organization swrc:name="Springer"/></swrc:publisher><swrc:series>Lecture Notes in Computer Science</swrc:series><swrc:title>Semantic Grounding of Tag Relatedness in Social Bookmarking Systems</swrc:title><swrc:volume>5318</swrc:volume><swrc:year>2008</swrc:year><swrc:keywords>Social Tagging;Semantic Web </swrc:keywords><swrc:abstract>Collaborative tagging systems have nowadays become important data sources for populating semantic web applications. For tasks like synonym detection and discovery of concept hierarchies, many researchers introduced measures of tag similarity. Even though most of these measures appear very natural, their design often seems to be rather ad hoc, and the underlying assumptions on the notion of similarity are not made explicit. A more systematic characterization and validation of tag similarity in terms of formal representations of knowledge is still lacking. Here we address this issue and analyze several measures of tag similarity: Each measure is computed on data from the social bookmarking system del.icio.us and a semantic grounding is provided by mapping pairs of similar tags in the folksonomy to pairs of synsets in Wordnet, where we use validated measures of semantic distance to characterize the semantic relation between the mapped tags. This exposes important features of the investigated similarity measures and indicates which ones are better suited in the context of a given semantic application.</swrc:abstract><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="978-3-540-88564-1" swrc:key="isbn"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="10.1007/978-3-540-88564-1_39" swrc:key="doi"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Ciro Cattuto"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Dominik Benz"/></rdf:_2><rdf:_3><swrc:Person swrc:name="Andreas Hotho"/></rdf:_3><rdf:_4><swrc:Person swrc:name="Gerd Stumme"/></rdf:_4></rdf:Seq></swrc:author><swrc:editor><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Amit Sheth"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Steffen Staab"/></rdf:_2><rdf:_3><swrc:Person swrc:name="Mike Dean"/></rdf:_3><rdf:_4><swrc:Person swrc:name="Massimo Paolucci"/></rdf:_4><rdf:_5><swrc:Person swrc:name="Diana Maynard"/></rdf:_5><rdf:_6><swrc:Person swrc:name="Timothy Finin"/></rdf:_6><rdf:_7><swrc:Person swrc:name="Krishnaprasad Thirunarayan"/></rdf:_7></rdf:Seq></swrc:editor></rdf:Description></burst:publication>

A user-centered approach to evaluating human interaction with web search engines: an exploratory study

<dc:subject>approach engines evaluating evaluation human information interaction paper retrieval search ugc user-centered web </dc:subject>
Amanda Spink Inf. This study explores a user-centered approach to the evaluation of the Web search engine Inquirus - a Web meta-search tool developed by researchers from the NEC Research Institute. The goal of the study reported in this paper was to develop a user-centered approach to the evaluation including: (1) effectiveness: based on the impact of users' interactions on their information problem and information seeking stage, and (2) usability: including screen layout and system capabilities for users. Twenty-two volunteers searched Inquirus on their own personal information topics. Data analyzed included: (1) user pre- and post-search questionnaires and (2) Inquirus search transaction logs. Key findings include: (1) Inquirus was rated highly by users on various usability measures, (2) all users experienced some level of shift/change in their information problem, information seeking, and personal knowledge due to their Inquirus interaction, (3) different users experienced different levels of change/shift, and (4) the search measure precision did not correlate with other user-based measures. Some users experienced major changes/shifts in various user-based variables, such as information problem or information seeking stage with a search of low precision and vice versa. Implications for the development of user-centered approaches to the evaluation of Web and information retrieval (IR) systems and further research are discussed.</swrc:abstract><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="0306-4573" swrc:key="issn"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="638650" swrc:key="acmid"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="3" swrc:key="issue"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="26" swrc:key="numpages"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="10.1016/S0306-4573(01)00036-X" swrc:key="doi"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Amanda Spink"/></rdf:_1></rdf:Seq></swrc:author></rdf:Description></burst:publication>
A user-centered approach to evaluating human interaction with web search engines

Web Analytics - Damit aus Traffic Umsatz wird, Die besten Tools und Strategien

<dc:subject>anal web </dc:subject>
Frank Reese BusinessVillage GmbH, 1. Considering this, the present book discusses the process of design and implementation of a competency management system in information and communication technologies domain utilizing the emerging Semantic Web standards, tools and technologies.
The proposed approach extends the functionalities of existing enterprise information systems and offers possibilities for development of future Internet applications. This allows organizations to express their core competences and talents in a standardized, machine processable and understandable format, and hence, facilitates their information exchange and integration with similar organizations on the Semantic Web.

perception of horrible sounds. The advantage of a web-based methodology
is that it enables hundreds of thousands of judgements to be obtained
over a diverse population. As part of the project, the effect of
what people saw on the screen on how they rated the sounds was examined.
The sounds were auditioned with images that were either associated
or unassociated with the sounds. It was found that images often affected
how horrible the sound was perceived to be. For example, the image
of finger nails on a blackboard made the associated sound more awful.
However, in the case of disgusting sounds, such as the sound of someone
eating, the images used had no significant effect on voting behaviour.
The colour of the website was also varied. The hue of the website
was found to be a significant factor, with a red website making the
sounds less horrible than a blue/green website. The brightness and
saturation of the website also altered people’s perceptions, with
the brighter, more saturated website making the most awful sounds,
such as the sound of someone vomiting, less horrible.</swrc:abstract><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="Mu" swrc:key="owner"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Trevor J. psychoacoustic experiment. This paper presents the results for the
scraping and disgusting noises used. It is not understood why some
humans find certain scraping noises, such as the sound of fingernails
being scraped down a blackboard, so terrible. In this experiment,
the variations in ratings with age, gender and location are examined.
The results for one of the scraping sounds is consistent with the
hypothesis suggested by others, that the response comes from a vestigial
reflex related to the warning cries of monkeys. But this was not
true for the actual recording of the fingernails scraping down a
blackboard. An alternative hypothesis that the response is related
to an audio–haptic interaction was tested and results indicated that
this idea warrants further investigation. Other possible causes of
the response, drawing on work concerning dissonance, are tentatively
suggested. The disgusting sounds examined included the worst sound
found in the experiment, the sound of someone vomiting. However,
none of the disgusting sounds tested promoted responses consistent
with a ‘disgust reaction’ based purely on survival instincts. Cultural
factors might be important in our response to the disgusting sounds,
with the influence of manners and etiquette being suggested as a
possible factor.</swrc:abstract><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="Mu" swrc:key="owner"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Trevor J. The use of such standard technologies means that this data should be exploitable, integrable and reusable straight away. However, once a potentially interesting dataset has been discovered, significant efforts are currently required in order to understand its schema, its content, the way to query it and what it can answer. In this paper, we propose a method and a tool to automatically discover questions that can be answered by an RDF dataset. We use formal concept analysis to build a hierarchy of meaningful sets of entities from a dataset. These sets of entities represent answers, which common characteristics represent the clauses of the corresponding questions. This hierarchy can then be used as a querying interface, proposing questions of varying levels of granularity and specificity to the user. A major issue is however that thousands of questions can be included in this hierarchy. Based on an empirical analysis and using metrics inspired both from formal concept analysis and from ontology summarization, we devise an approach for identifying relevant questions to act as a starting point to the navigation in the question hierarchy.</swrc:abstract><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="1999698" swrc:key="acmid"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="Banff, Alberta, Canada" swrc:key="location"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="978-1-4503-0396-5" swrc:key="isbn"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="8" swrc:key="numpages"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="10.1145/1999676.1999698" swrc:key="doi"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Mathieu d'Aquin"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Enrico Motta"/></rdf:_2></rdf:Seq></swrc:author></rdf:Description></burst:publication>

MediaJourney: Capturing and Sharing Digital Media from Real-World and Virtual Journeys

<dc:subject>link ht2009 web pp150 anchors geo-spatial hypermedia multimedia blogging poster ubiquitous location-awareness mobile </dc:subject>
Kaspar Rosengreen Nielsen, Rasmus Gude, Marianne Graves Petersen, and Kaj Grønbæk HT '09: Proceedings of the Twentieth ACM Conference on Hypertext and Hypermedia, New York, NY, USA, ACM, (July 2009)
<taxo:topics><rdf:Bag><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/link"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/ht2009"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/web"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/pp150"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/anchors"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/geo-spatial"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/hypermedia"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/multimedia"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/blogging"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/poster"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/ubiquitous"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/location-awareness"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/mobile"/></rdf:Bag></taxo:topics><burst:publication><rdf:Description rdf:about="http://www.bibsonomy.org/bibtex/27df09b63f48b1dbe874e7d561d9f9928/enitsirhc"><owl:sameAs rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/uri/bibtex/27df09b63f48b1dbe874e7d561d9f9928/enitsirhc"/><rdf:type rdf:resource="http://swrc.ontoware.org/ontology#InProceedings"/><swrc:date>Thu Jan 19 16:05:47 CET 2012</swrc:date><swrc:address>New York, NY, USA</swrc:address><swrc:booktitle>HT '09: Proceedings of the Twentieth ACM Conference on Hypertext and Hypermedia</swrc:booktitle><swrc:month>July</swrc:month><swrc:publisher><swrc:Organization swrc:name="ACM"/></swrc:publisher><swrc:title>MediaJourney: Capturing and Sharing Digital Media from Real-World and Virtual Journeys</swrc:title><swrc:year>2009</swrc:year><swrc:keywords>link ht2009 web pp150 anchors geo-spatial hypermedia multimedia blogging poster ubiquitous location-awareness mobile </swrc:keywords><swrc:abstract>In this poster, we discuss a novel MediaJourney concept and infrastructure with integrated applications for capturing, anno¬ta¬ting, and automatically tagging captured media objects during phy¬sical journeys as well as virtual journeys on the web or in media collections. The main objective of MediaJourney is to radi¬cally reduce overhead in collecting and organizing cap¬tured digital media for planned or ad-hoc sharing with family and friends, e.g. in a home setting. This is supported with a mix of automatic tagging and manual selection or keyword tagging of journeys at the time of capture. The idea is to provide automatic and simple mechanisms for structuring while capturing. </swrc:abstract><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="Poster" swrc:key="session"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="pp150" swrc:key="paperid"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Kaspar Rosengreen Nielsen"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Rasmus Gude"/></rdf:_2><rdf:_3><swrc:Person swrc:name="Marianne Graves Petersen"/></rdf:_3><rdf:_4><swrc:Person swrc:name="Kaj Grønbæk"/></rdf:_4></rdf:Seq></swrc:author></rdf:Description></burst:publication>

SOAM: An Environment Adaptation Model for the Pervasive Semantic Web.

<dc:subject>internetofthings semantic web pervasive architecture devices </dc:subject>
Juan Ignacio Vázquez, Diego López de Ipiña, and Iñigo Sedano ICCSA 4, volume 3983 of Lecture Notes in Computer Science, page 108-117. Springer, (2006)
<taxo:topics><rdf:Bag><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/internetofthings"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/semantic"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/web"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/pervasive"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/architecture"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/devices"/></rdf:Bag></taxo:topics><burst:publication><rdf:Description rdf:about="http://www.bibsonomy.org/bibtex/222ca65149b7b9105db5611f6ea84c849/enitsirhc"><owl:sameAs rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/uri/bibtex/222ca65149b7b9105db5611f6ea84c849/enitsirhc"/><rdf:type rdf:resource="http://swrc.ontoware.org/ontology#InProceedings"/><owl:sameAs rdf:resource="http://dblp.uni-trier.de/db/conf/iccsa/iccsa2006-4.html#VazquezIS06"/><swrc:date>Thu Jan 19 15:14:45 CET 2012</swrc:date><swrc:booktitle>ICCSA (4)</swrc:booktitle><swrc:pages>108-117</swrc:pages><swrc:publisher><swrc:Organization swrc:name="Springer"/></swrc:publisher><swrc:series>Lecture Notes in Computer Science</swrc:series><swrc:title>SOAM: An Environment Adaptation Model for the Pervasive Semantic Web.</swrc:title><swrc:volume>3983</swrc:volume><swrc:year>2006</swrc:year><swrc:keywords>internetofthings semantic web pervasive architecture devices </swrc:keywords><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/11751632_12" swrc:key="ee"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="3-540-34077-7" swrc:key="isbn"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="2006-05-23" swrc:key="date"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Juan Ignacio Vázquez"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Diego López de Ipiña"/></rdf:_2><rdf:_3><swrc:Person swrc:name="Iñigo Sedano"/></rdf:_3></rdf:Seq></swrc:author><swrc:editor><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Marina L.
