Its validity is tested through comparisons with simulations of front and pulse propagation in systems
with spatially varying diffusion coefficients and reaction rates. The theory is able to predict wave
speeds if the characteristic front width is much larger than the length scale of the heterogeneities.
This condition is violated in media with isolated or weakly connected sites. In such media the
theory nevertheless provides good results if it predicts the percolation threshold of the involved sites
correctly.</swrc:abstract><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Sergio Alonso"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Raymond Kapral"/></rdf:_2><rdf:_3><swrc:Person swrc:name="Markus B{\"a}r"/></rdf:_3></rdf:Seq></swrc:author></rdf:Description></burst:publication>

Scale-free networks

<dc:subject>imported </dc:subject>
Albert-László Barabási, and Eric Bonabeau Sci.~Am. 288(5):50--59 (2003)
<taxo:topics><rdf:Bag><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/imported"/></rdf:Bag></taxo:topics><burst:publication><rdf:Description rdf:about="http://www.bibsonomy.org/bibtex/202882eea124dd756bf95cbd8bad62d6a/bronckobuster"><owl:sameAs rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/uri/bibtex/202882eea124dd756bf95cbd8bad62d6a/bronckobuster"/><rdf:type rdf:resource="http://swrc.ontoware.org/ontology#Article"/><swrc:date>Tue Mar 03 17:19:04 CET 2009</swrc:date><swrc:journal>Sci.~Am.</swrc:journal><swrc:number>5</swrc:number><swrc:pages>50--59</swrc:pages><swrc:title>{Scale-free networks}</swrc:title><swrc:volume>288</swrc:volume><swrc:year>2003</swrc:year><swrc:keywords>imported </swrc:keywords><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Albert-L\'aszl\'o Barab\'asi"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Eric Bonabeau"/></rdf:_2></rdf:Seq></swrc:author></rdf:Description></burst:publication>

The Structure and Function of Complex Networks

<dc:subject>complex computer graph graphs; networks; percolation random social systems; theory theory; </dc:subject>
M. For the case of fast synapses, numerical and analytical calculations show that the network relaxes into a stationary state of high attention. The majority of the neurons has a membrane potential just below the threshold; as a consequence the network can react immediately – on the time scale of synaptic transmission- on external pulses. The neurons fire with a low rate and with a broad distribution of interspike intervals. Firing events of the total network are correlated over short time periods. The firing rate increases linearly with external stimuli. In the limit of infinitely large networks, the synaptic noise decreases to zero. Nevertheless, the distribution of interspike intervals remains broad.</swrc:abstract><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Wolfgang Kinzel"/></rdf:_1></rdf:Seq></swrc:author></rdf:Description></burst:publication>

Patterns of chaos synchronization

<dc:subject>chaos; synchronisation </dc:subject>
J. A third unit may be able to record and to manipulate the exchanged signal. Can the third unit synchronize to the common chaotic trajectory, as well? If all parameters of the system are public, a proof is given that the recording system can synchronize as well. However, if the two interacting systems use private commutative filters to generate the exchanged signal, a driven system cannot synchronize. It is shown that with dynamic private filters the chaotic trajectory even cannot be calculated. Hence two-way (interaction) is better than one-way (drive). The implication of this general result to secret communication with chaos synchronization is discussed.</swrc:abstract><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="I. Since these local networks indicate a sophisticated activity by the interplay between electrical and inhibitory synapses, the emergence of synchronous phenomena have been investigated by many researchers. We propose coupled neuronal models connected by both inhibitory and electrical synapses and investigate the emergence of various synchronous phenomena and its bifurcational structures by bifurcation analysis. Although it is generally known that a strong gap junction synchronizes coupled neurons, we show in-phase and anti-phase phenomena in coupled neurons connected by both inhibitory and electrical synapses. They change to chaotic solutions via period-doubling and pitchfork bifurcations.</swrc:abstract><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="10.1109/iscas.2005.1466021" swrc:key="doi"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="S.
