There is a long list of ITSs that have been tested on humans and have proven to facilitate learning. There are well-tested tutors of algebra, geometry, and computer languages (such as PACT [Koedinger et al. 1997]); physics (such as ANDES [Gertner and VanLehn 2000; VanLehn 1996]); and electronics (such as SHERLOCK [Lesgold et al. 1992]). These ITSs use a variety of computational modules that are familiar to those of us in the world of AI: production systems, Bayesian networks, schema templates, theorem proving, and explanatory reasoning. According to the current estimates, the arsenal of sophisticated computational modules inherited from AI produce learning gains of approximately .3 to 1.0 standard deviation units compared with students learning the same content in a classroom (Corbett et al. 1999).</swrc:abstract><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Arthur Graesser"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Kurt VanLehn"/></rdf:_2><rdf:_3><swrc:Person swrc:name="Carolyn Ros\'{e}"/></rdf:_3><rdf:_4><swrc:Person swrc:name="Pamela Jordan"/></rdf:_4><rdf:_5><swrc:Person swrc:name="Derek Harter"/></rdf:_5></rdf:Seq></swrc:author></rdf:Description></burst:publication>

Some Phenomena Handled by the CIRCSIM-Tutor Version 3 Input Understander

<dc:subject>tutoring_system dialogue_system </dc:subject>
Michael Glass Proc. of the 1997 Florida Artificial Intelligence Research Symposium, FLAIRS, (Forthcoming)
<taxo:topics><rdf:Bag><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/tutoring_system"/><rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/tag/dialogue_system"/></rdf:Bag></taxo:topics><burst:publication><rdf:Description rdf:about="http://www.bibsonomy.org/bibtex/2d16a826c5f66eab8e686fcaa0ded944c/diego_ma"><owl:sameAs rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/uri/bibtex/2d16a826c5f66eab8e686fcaa0ded944c/diego_ma"/><rdf:type rdf:resource="http://swrc.ontoware.org/ontology#InProceedings"/><owl:sameAs rdf:resource="/brokenurl#CIRCSIM's web page?"/><swrc:date>Fri Dec 14 02:39:26 CET 2007</swrc:date><swrc:booktitle>Proc. of the 1997 Florida Artificial Intelligence Research Symposium, FLAIRS</swrc:booktitle><swrc:title>Some Phenomena Handled by the {CIRCSIM}-Tutor Version 3 Input Understander</swrc:title><swrc:year>Forthcoming</swrc:year><swrc:keywords>tutoring_system dialogue_system </swrc:keywords><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Michael Glass"/></rdf:_1></rdf:Seq></swrc:author></rdf:Description></burst:publication>

System Demonstration Content Planning as the Basis for an Intelligent Tutoring System

<dc:subject>tutoring_system dialogue_system </dc:subject>
Reva Freedman, Stefan Brandle, Michael Glass, Jung Hee Kim, Yujian Zhou, and Martha W.
