Abstract: Blogs collect abundant information by providing easy and dynamic publishing interface. Semantic blogging attempts to provide structure to blog entries by enriching them with metadata. However, currently semantic blogging does not link up related items. So it is still difficult to navigate, retrieve and organize related blog entries. OntoBlog is a prototype semantic blogging system which attempts to facilitate informal knowledge management in blogs by interlinking related blog entries. It combines blogging and knowledge base technologies. This is done by semi-automatic semantic annotation of blog entries with ontology instances. Blog entries are automatically linked to related instances using language processing. The rich structure of ontology can enable useful semantic capabilities for knowledge management. Semantic navigation allows users to navigate through each blog entry to semantically related blog entries. Semantic search can be employed in blogs. Semantic aggregation collects blog entries relevant to the topic of interest and organizes them meaningfully. A prototype for computer department domain ontology has been implemented.

Abstract: Sharing bibliographic information is important in a research community. We propose a decentralized way for this over the social network of researchers by aggregation of information through one’s social links. We have experimentally verified that highly relevant information can be obtained from direct social links. Blogs provide an easy platform for such social information sharing. Semantic blogging can enhance this with standard structure needed for bibliographic information. We have implemented a semantic blogging prototype called SocioBiblog for this purpose. It uses the SWRC ontology for publication metadata and aggregates publications from the social network neighborhood and co-authors of each researcher. RSS aggregation has been extended to handle the embedded publication metadata. The aggregated collections may be searched and filtered flexibly by metadata criteria. The results can be redistributed as new feeds which can further be integrated, mixed and reused by other systems. A decentralized ecosystem is formed where each unit can publish, aggregate and redistribute information.

Abstract: Semantic blogging attempts to enhance traditional blogging by using Semantic Web technologies. Blog entries are semantically enriched by metadata. However, authoring metadata is not easy for normal users. Currently semantic blogging only offers limited semantic capabilities. It is still difficult to navigate through semantically related entries, search and organize relevant blog entries. OntoBlog attempts to solve these issues by linking blogs to existing ontology maintained using available ontology management environment. OntoBlog is a prototype semantic blogging system which employs semi-automatic semantic annotation of blog entries using ontology instances. Blog entries are automatically mapped to related instances using language processing techniques. The rich structure of ontology with different semantic relations, enhanced by inference, can enable useful semantic capabilities. Semantic navigation allows users to navigate through each blog entry to semantically related blog entries. Semantic search can be employed in blogs. Semantic aggregation collects blog entries relevant to the topic of interest and organizes them meaningfully. A prototype for computer department domain ontology has been implemented.

Abstract: Researchers need to share information about their publications. They also desire to share opinions and comments about each other’s publications. The paper describes a system which demonstrates how semantic blogging can be used for the purpose. The SWRC ontology has been incorporated in the blogging system for entering the metadata of publications. The semantic blogging system provides means to annotate publications. The system is a decentralized publication aggregation system. It utilizes the RSS technology to aggregate posts. The publication metadata is embedded in the RSS to produce BuRST feed. The RSS aggregator has been extended to handle the BuRST feeds. The system uses the FOAF links of the authors and friends to explore the social network of the research community for aggregation of relevant information.
