This year's discovery challenge presents two tasks in the new area of social bookmarking. One task covers spam detection and the other covers tag ...This year's discovery challenge presents two tasks in the new area of social bookmarking. One task covers spam detection and the other covers tag recommendations. As we are hosting the social bookmark and publication sharing system BibSonomy, we are able to provide a dataset of BibSonomy for the challenge. A training dataset for both tasks is provided at the beginning of the competition. The test dataset will be released 48 hours before the final deadline. Due to a very tight schedule we cannot grant any deadline extension. The presentation of the results will take place at the ECML/PKDD workshop where the top teams are invited to present their approaches and results.

Dieses Ziel setzt die EU-Kommission in einer Mitteilung zum neuen Internetprotokoll und dem Fortschritt des Netzes, die Ende Mai veröffentlicht werden soll. Detlef Eckert von der Generaldirektion Informationsgesellschaft und Medien stellte beim RIPE-Treffen in Berlin die Eckpunkte der Mitteilung und den damit verbundenen Aktionsplan vor. Die Kommission schließe sich den Forderungen von Organisationen wie den Réseaux IP Européens Network Coordination Centre (RIPE) an, die mit Blick auf die schwindenden IPv4-Adressreserven zum raschen Handeln auffordern. Vier zentrale Aktionsbereiche stellte Eckert in Berlin vor: Die Kommission will bei den Anbietern von Inhalten, Anwendungen und Diensten für IPv6 werben, öffentliche Ausschreibungen sollen IPv6 zum Standard für alle Produkte und Dienste machen – und dies europaweit, Kampagnen sollen geordnete Übergangsszenarien empfehlen und für die Einbettung von IPv6 in der Lehre sorgen. Schließlich soll ein eigener Dialog zu Sicherheits- und Datenschutzfragen geführt werden.

Well, huge compared to regular lice. And they just live happily in your underwear. It's so COOL! They grow, and have families. You can feel em living and crawling around. It's like having personal Sea monkeys in your pants ;-) Seriously, though, they really are my personal pets that go everywhere with me. You get attached to them like any pet.

MIT researcher Seth Lloyd believes that a new architecture for quantum random access memory (QRAM) could be used to reduce the energy wasted by random access memory (RAM) as well as for completely anonymous Internet searchers. Classical computing requires the use of RAM to retrieve information, but RAM design is wasteful and subject to interference, Lloyd says. Lloyd worked with Vittorio Giovannetti at the NEST-CNR-INFM in Pisa, Italy, and Lorenzo Maccone at the University of Pavia, Italy, to create a system that works as QRAM. Lloyd says their QRAM architecture was discovered when his colleagues and him were researching how to make QRAM work on classical RAM design. He says QRAM is a "sneakier" way of accessing RAM. In traditional RAM, the first bit of an address throws two switches, the second throws four, and so on, Lloyd says. With QRAM, "all the bits of the address only interact with two switches," Lloyd says. The energy saved using QRAM is not enough to offset the larger energy problems associated with classical computing, and Lloyd says QRAM is slower than RAM. However, he says QRAM's benefits can be applied to quantum Internet searches. "If you had a quantum Internet, then this would be useful," he says. "This offers a huge decrease in energy used and an increase in robustness." For this to work, Lloyd says "dark fiber" is needed, and although it is already being used for some classical communications, a quantum Internet would need more.
