In this article, we attempt to elaborate a different view on personalization than what usually occurs in this area. We put our emphasis upon the inner perception of personalization - the student&#039;s feeling that this learning activity is a personal matter. The baseline of view presented here is that personalization occurs when learning turns out to become personal in the learner&#039;s mind. We analyze different means for raising this sense of personalization and we describe a prototype designed according to the conceptual approach presented here. We introduce the process/pedagogy/tools model and shown how its assembly-line style of process modelling can be used to describe which pedagogical aspects and which tools that support which parts of a specific learning process. We also review the SECI knowledge creation theory of Nonaka and combine it with process modelling to arrive at a SECI process framework for the study and analysis of knowledge-creating learning processes. While two case studies focus on the corporate world, two other case studies look at the use of Social Software in academic workplaces. The concluding remarks identify some common benefits as well as issues with the use of Social Software and to derive some further research challenges from the different cases. The findings for future research need to be directed towards strategies for corporate learning and working environments to effectively integrate Social Software solutions for very specific needs in different institutional cultures.
