Co-design and human centric design practices have been the focus of current research efforts in the field of educational technologies but not as prevalent in mobile games to support learning. In our current research we are exploring which design methods are appropriate for developing innovative ways of learning supported by mobile games. This paper presents all those aspects related to the design and implementation of a mobile game called Skattjakt (Treasure Hunt in Swedish). The outcome of our activities has provided us with valuable results that can help us to bridge the gap between learning in informal and formal settings. Moreover, we believe that involving children in the design process of mobile games may give us new insights regarding the nature of their learning practices while learning with games.</swrc:abstract><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Daniel Spikol"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Marcelo Milrad"/></rdf:_2></rdf:Seq></swrc:author></rdf:Description><rdf:Description rdf:about="http://www.bibsonomy.org/bibtex/2889f9eab2b62702aab4c8abf21a78aa3/dblp"><owl:sameAs rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/uri/bibtex/2889f9eab2b62702aab4c8abf21a78aa3/dblp"/><rdf:type rdf:resource="http://swrc.ontoware.org/ontology#InProceedings"/><owl:sameAs rdf:resource="http://dblp.uni-trier.de/db/conf/icls/icls2010-2.html#WichmannHSMASPMJ10"/><swrc:date>Mon Dec 19 00:00:00 CET 2011</swrc:date><swrc:booktitle>ICLS</swrc:booktitle><swrc:crossref>conf/icls/2010-2</swrc:crossref><swrc:pages>499-500</swrc:pages><swrc:publisher><swrc:Organization swrc:name="International Society of the Learning Sciences / ACM DL"/></swrc:publisher><swrc:title>Three perspectives on technology support in inquiry learning: personal inquiry, mobile collaboratories and emerging learning objects.</swrc:title><swrc:year>2010</swrc:year><swrc:keywords>dblp </swrc:keywords><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="http://dl.acm.org/citation.cfm?id=1854769" swrc:key="ee"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Astrid Wichmann"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Heinz Ulrich Hoppe"/></rdf:_2><rdf:_3><swrc:Person swrc:name="Daniel Spikol"/></rdf:_3><rdf:_4><swrc:Person swrc:name="Marcelo Milrad"/></rdf:_4><rdf:_5><swrc:Person swrc:name="Stamatina Anastopoulou"/></rdf:_5><rdf:_6><swrc:Person swrc:name="Mike Sharples"/></rdf:_6><rdf:_7><swrc:Person swrc:name="Roy Pea"/></rdf:_7><rdf:_8><swrc:Person swrc:name="Heidy Maldonado"/></rdf:_8><rdf:_9><swrc:Person swrc:name="Ton de Jong"/></rdf:_9></rdf:Seq></swrc:author><swrc:editor><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Susan R. In this paper, we present our technical efforts in relation to the design and implementation of mobile and web applications that integrate sensory data used to support inquiry-based science learning. In order to test the validity of our solution and its functionality and novelty, we conducted a prototype experiment with high school students in the field of environmental sciences. conducted significant mobile learning projects, representing a distinct
perspective on mobile learning research and development. Our paper aims to
explore how these projects have arisen, showing the driving forces of European
innovation in mobile learning. We propose context as a central construct in
mobile learning and examine theories of learning for the mobile world, based
on physical, technological, conceptual, social and temporal mobility. We also
examine the impacts of mobile learning research on educational practices and
the implications for policy. Throughout, we identify lessons learnt from

These GPS-enabled devices produce a wide range of media content (e.g., text/audio notes, pictures, or videos) enhanced by geo-tagged information. This fact poses a challenge regarding how to store and retrieve it and opens new research opportunities for visualizing this type of data. The overall aim of our current research is to develop novel approaches and methods for visualizing the content of these documents that will be placed in maps using GPS-coordinates as well as to visualize the semantical, temporal, and spatial relations between the documents themselves. We combined different visualization and interaction techniques, such as glyph-based techniques and visual clustering, to analyze the produced data. Our prototype application, called GNV System (GeoNotes Visualization System), demonstrates the interplay of different interaction techniques and components as well as their functionality.</swrc:abstract><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Andreas Kerren"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Ilir Jusufi"/></rdf:_2><rdf:_3><swrc:Person swrc:name="Marcelo Milrad"/></rdf:_3></rdf:Seq></swrc:author></rdf:Description><rdf:Description rdf:about="http://www.bibsonomy.org/bibtex/25589ece4bf06163aa67c6546e1f28431/dblp"><owl:sameAs rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/uri/bibtex/25589ece4bf06163aa67c6546e1f28431/dblp"/><rdf:type rdf:resource="http://swrc.ontoware.org/ontology#InProceedings"/><owl:sameAs rdf:resource="http://dblp.uni-trier.de/db/conf/ectel/ectel2010.html#VogelKSM10"/><swrc:date>Tue Sep 21 00:00:00 CEST 2010</swrc:date><swrc:booktitle>EC-TEL</swrc:booktitle><swrc:crossref>conf/ectel/2010</swrc:crossref><swrc:pages>596-601</swrc:pages><swrc:publisher><swrc:Organization swrc:name="Springer"/></swrc:publisher><swrc:series>Lecture Notes in Computer Science</swrc:series><swrc:title>Exploring the Benefits of Open Standard Initiatives for Supporting Inquiry-Based Science Learning.</swrc:title><swrc:volume>6383</swrc:volume><swrc:year>2010</swrc:year><swrc:keywords>dblp </swrc:keywords><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-16020-2_60" swrc:key="ee"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="978-3-642-16019-6" swrc:key="isbn"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Bahtijar Vogel"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Arianit Kurti"/></rdf:_2><rdf:_3><swrc:Person swrc:name="Daniel Spikol"/></rdf:_3><rdf:_4><swrc:Person swrc:name="Marcelo Milrad"/></rdf:_4></rdf:Seq></swrc:author><swrc:editor><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Martin Wolpers"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Paul A. There is a growing trend pointing to life publishing and life logging using mobile devices. Users are sharing their experiences and their life with friends in real-time by posting blog notes, images and video clips from their phones to social media services. In addition, people are tagging content either by manually or using sensory data with their phones. An interesting question to be asked is; How users are experiencing these applications and what issues make them to be successfully adopted? This workshop will offer an interdisciplinary discussion forum for both practitioners and academics interested in conceptualizing, designing and evaluating emerging social mobile media concepts and applications. The workshop, through a series of interactive presentations, will facilitate discussions aiming at identify and summarize main theoretical and interaction design concerns related to the increasing use of social mobile media in a variety of settings. The main goal of the workshop is to find out ideas that suggest promising directions for future research on social mobile media.</swrc:abstract><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="Bonn, Germany" swrc:key="location"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="978-1-60558-281-8" swrc:key="isbn"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="10.1145/1613858.1613977" swrc:key="doi"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Jari Multisilta"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Marcelo Milrad"/></rdf:_2></rdf:Seq></swrc:author></rdf:Description><rdf:Description rdf:about="http://www.bibsonomy.org/bibtex/284257b48af7da0071f94ee601e1a5b5f/dblp"><owl:sameAs rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/uri/bibtex/284257b48af7da0071f94ee601e1a5b5f/dblp"/><rdf:type rdf:resource="http://swrc.ontoware.org/ontology#InProceedings"/><owl:sameAs rdf:resource="http://dblp.uni-trier.de/db/conf/icwe/icwe2010.html#KaltofenMK10"/><swrc:date>Thu Jul 08 00:00:00 CEST 2010</swrc:date><swrc:booktitle>ICWE</swrc:booktitle><swrc:crossref>conf/icwe/2010</swrc:crossref><swrc:pages>518-521</swrc:pages><swrc:publisher><swrc:Organization swrc:name="Springer"/></swrc:publisher><swrc:series>Lecture Notes in Computer Science</swrc:series><swrc:title>A Cross-Platform Software System to Create and Deploy Mobile Mashups.</swrc:title><swrc:volume>6189</swrc:volume><swrc:year>2010</swrc:year><swrc:keywords>dblp </swrc:keywords><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-13911-6_42" swrc:key="ee"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="978-3-642-13910-9" swrc:key="isbn"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Sandra Kaltofen"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Marcelo Milrad"/></rdf:_2><rdf:_3><swrc:Person swrc:name="Arianit Kurti"/></rdf:_3></rdf:Seq></swrc:author><swrc:editor><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Boualem Benatallah"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Fabio Casati"/></rdf:_2><rdf:_3><swrc:Person swrc:name="Gerti Kappel"/></rdf:_3><rdf:_4><swrc:Person swrc:name="Gustavo Rossi"/></rdf:_4></rdf:Seq></swrc:editor></rdf:Description><rdf:Description rdf:about="http://www.bibsonomy.org/bibtex/24f04297e0777557fd6064fd49d8c3c4e/yish"><owl:sameAs rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/uri/bibtex/24f04297e0777557fd6064fd49d8c3c4e/yish"/><rdf:type rdf:resource="http://swrc.ontoware.org/ontology#InProceedings"/><owl:sameAs rdf:resource="http://doi.ieeecomputersociety.org/10.1109/WMUTE.2008.37"/><swrc:date>Wed May 05 03:13:17 CEST 2010</swrc:date><swrc:booktitle>Fifth IEEE International Conference on Wireless, Mobile, and Ubiquitous Technology in Education</swrc:booktitle><swrc:organization><swrc:Organization swrc:name="IEEE"/></swrc:organization><swrc:pages>31-38</swrc:pages><swrc:title>Combining physical activities and mobile games to promote novel learning practices</swrc:title><swrc:year>2008</swrc:year><swrc:keywords>based constructivism design education games haifa-games-course informal learning mobile outdoors research social technologies ubiquitous </swrc:keywords><swrc:abstract>Mobile outdoor games can be seen as fertile ground for conducting novel learning activities that involve children in different tasks including physical motion, problem solving, inquiry and collaboration; all those are activities that support different cognitive and social aspects of learning. Moreover, we believe that involving children in the design process of mobile games may give us new insights regarding the nature of their learning practices while learning with games.</swrc:abstract><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Daniel Spikol"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Marcelo Milrad"/></rdf:_2></rdf:Seq></swrc:author></rdf:Description><rdf:Description rdf:about="http://www.bibsonomy.org/bibtex/2f57ae79b52943c6727496a99c94b2dd5/yish"><owl:sameAs rdf:resource="http://www.bibsonomy.org/uri/bibtex/2f57ae79b52943c6727496a99c94b2dd5/yish"/><rdf:type rdf:resource="http://swrc.ontoware.org/ontology#InCollection"/><owl:sameAs rdf:resource="http://telearn.noe-kaleidoscope.org/open-archive/browse?resource=1143"/><swrc:date>Mon Jan 25 11:16:24 CET 2010</swrc:date><swrc:booktitle>Technology Enhanced Learning: Principles and Products</swrc:booktitle><swrc:pages>233-249</swrc:pages><swrc:publisher><swrc:Organization swrc:name="Springer-Verlag, Berlin"/></swrc:publisher><swrc:title>Mobile Learning: Small devices, Big Issues</swrc:title><swrc:year>2009</swrc:year><swrc:keywords>haifa-edtech kaleidoscope learning ml4d mlearning mobile mobilelearning polonsky technology </swrc:keywords><swrc:abstract>Over the past ten years mobile learning has grown from a minor research interest to a set of significant projects in schools, workplaces, museums, cities and rural areas around the world. Each project has shown how mobile technology can offer new opportunities for learning that extend within and beyond the traditional teacher-led classroom. Yet, the very diversity of the projects makes it difficult to capture the essence of mobile learning or to show how it contributes to the theory and practice of education. In this chapter we attempt to address the central issues of what is mobile learning and how can we design and evaluate it. Drawing on a theory of mobile learning as ‘the processes of coming to know through conversations across multiple contexts amongst people and personal interactive technologies’ (Sharples et al. 2007) we shall discuss how learning contexts are created through interaction, and how portable and ubiquitous technologies can support effective conversations for learning. We shall draw on the findings from recent major projects to show how people artfully engage with their surroundings, peers and technology to create impromptu sites of learning and to carry their conversations from place to place, from time to time, from topic to topic.</swrc:abstract><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="Mike Sharples"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Inmaculada Arnedillo Sánchez"/></rdf:_2><rdf:_3><swrc:Person swrc:name="Marcelo Milrad"/></rdf:_3><rdf:_4><swrc:Person swrc:name="Giasemi Vavoula"/></rdf:_4></rdf:Seq></swrc:author><swrc:editor><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="N.
