Challenger consists of agents which individually manage local resources; these agents communicate with one another to share their resources (in this particular instance, CPU time) in an attempt to more efficiently utilize them. By endowing the agents with relatively simple behaviors which rely on only locally available information, desirable global system objectives can be obtained, such minimization of mean job flow time. Challenger is similar to other market-based control systems in that the agents act as buyers and sellers in a marketplace, always trying to maximize their own utility. The original Hamiltonian is converted into a solvable one by a transformation obtained through a Magnus expansion. This ensures unitarity at every order in a small parameter. A comparison with the standard perturbation theory is provided. However, previous research has demonstrated that the hierarchical structure of dialogue, which is a natural representation for linguists, is difficult for non-linguists to understand and work with. Even for linguists, it is possible to lose track of where one is in this hierarchical structure during authoring. We refer to difficulty in working with this hierarchical representation as the hierarchical navigation problem. In this short paper we present a simple but powerful tool designed to facilitate the authoring process, which includes innovative interface elements that specifically target the hierarchical navigation problem.
