In response, several user-controlled digital identity technologies--such as OpenID, Microsoft CardSpace, and the Higgins Project--have sprung up that are converging in places such as Apache, Eclipse, Identity Commons, IETF, and OASIS. This session explains the need for digital identity technologies (improved security, higher user convenience, increased privacy, more-accurate information, new applications) and outlines how developers on the Java platform can take advantage of digital identity in their applications by using an existing application, with code, for example.
