"Libraries were once the center of the information universe. Fifteen years ago, if I had told you about the coming internet, you would have assumed that libraries would have a prominent place on it. They don't. Libraries, including WorldCat, rarely show up in web searches, even for books. I lay the blame squarely at the wrong-headed decision to keep library data off the "real web" and to push WorldCat as a "aggregation point" for nobody.

We don't need a German Digital Library. There is already a Global Digital Library, so "GDL" is already taken as a trademark, sorry (ok, the German version uses DDB as label): "the net".

Das Thema von InetBib ist die Nutzung von Internet in Bibliotheken. Bei den InetBib-Tagungen werden aktuelle Trends aufgegriffen und auf ihre Praxistauglichkeit untersucht. Ausdrücklich werden dabei auch Experimente vorgestellt, die vielleicht in kurzer Zeit zum Trend werden. Rückblicke auf bisherige Versuche sind erwünscht im Hinblick auf ihre Realisierung im Produktionsbetrieb.
