" LOCANDA La Lanterna " - Via Santa Maria 113 http://www.locandalalanterna.com (the english site doesn't work...) (on the green sign of the hotel there is written only LOCANDA, see image on the website) for a short description in english look here http://www.saimicadove.it/vetrineutili/pisa/presentazione.asp?Id=3695&Lang=en and here http://www.soggiornareintoscana.it/locanda_la_lanterna/ but it's better if I conctact them...the lady has a "particular feelings" with peoople from Genova 'cause she was born here...and usually she makes a particular rate for us ;-) the hotel (simple but clean) is wonderfully located... 1 min walking from the leaning tower!!! from the train station is about 15 min, because the hotel and the tower and all the monuments are on the opposite side of Arno river. Actually the airport is not next to the Central Station as it seems from this map, but it is 10 minutes walking more to the south, however there is another railways station called "Pisa Aeroporto" which is exactly inside the airport , and it takes 3 minutes by train to get from one station to the other. The train coming from Genova will stop at Pisa Centrale, but as we said it is then easy to get to the airpot. So the night you are interested in is the 29 of april, isn't it? let me know if i have to phone to the hotel... Michele suggests that you should try this restaurant: "Numero Undici" - Via S. Martino, 47 www.numeroundici.it (site only in italian) map (the "numero 11"is the blue circle, the street of the hotel is the first on the left...remeber...pisa is little! in 10-15 min you reach everything!!!) http://www.viamichelin.com/viamichelin/ita/dyn/controller/mapPerformPage?strAddress=47+Via+San+Martino&strLocation=Pisa&strCountry=612&mapId=-tgyaj4l2x0ey0o&pim=true It is a nice very informal restaurant which could probably define as a high quality cousine fast food! In fact you are not served, you take your place, you give your orders at the counter, you take glasses fork and whatever you need and put them on the table on your own, and they will call you when the food is ready. They cook dishes from several cultures, included good Italian and touscanian food ....and yes, don't be shy and take some wine, in fact (if things aren't changed) they give you a bottle (may be a big one) and then you pay only for the wine you drank, not for the whole bottle (you might ask if this is changed). Ah, don't forget to ask for some bread, they will provide you with slices of bread or focaccias made by them which usually is simply fabulous. in Pisa you can buy the ticket not only for the tower (it's expensive!) but a cumulative ticket for tower and other museums and monuments that are in Piazza dei Miracoli, very interesting is the monumental cemetery(...with wonderful frescoes...) , it's on the back of the tower! and the Duomo and the Battistero. don't forget to visit Piazza dei Cavalieri, where the Normale university is...it's the most famous Italian university, and the part of the city called Borgo Stretto... at the end of Borgo Stretto there is Piazza Garibaldi...where they sell very good ice-cream!
