To improve the understanding of the underlying mechanisms that generate such sequences, the HypTrails approach provides for a novel data analysis method. Based on first-order Markov chain models and Bayesian hypothesis testing, it allows for comparing a set of hypotheses, i.e., beliefs about transitions between states, with respect to their plausibility considering observed data. HypTrails has been successfully employed to study phenomena in the online and the offline world. In this talk, we want to give an introduction to HypTrails and showcase selected real-world applications on urban mobility and reading behavior on Wikipedia.}, added-at = {2018-01-31T10:54:30.000+0100}, address = {Cham}, author = {Lemmerich, Florian and Singer, Philipp and Becker, Martin and Espin-Noboa, Lisette and Dimitrov, Dimitar and Helic, Denis and Hotho, Andreas and Strohmaier, Markus}, biburl = {https://www.bibsonomy.org/bibtex/20d73570307d2b656b976b80ac59d97e9/hotho}, booktitle = {Machine Learning and Knowledge Discovery in Databases}, description = {Comparing Hypotheses About Sequential Data: A Bayesian Approach and Its Applications | SpringerLink}, editor = {Altun, Yasemin and Das, Kamalika and Mielik{\"a}inen, Taneli and Malerba, Donato and Stefanowski, Jerzy and Read, Jesse and {\v{Z}}itnik, Marinka and Ceci, Michelangelo and D{\v{z}}eroski, Sa{\v{s}}o}, interhash = {dc6c93522669a56464b830fc0f69b8c6}, intrahash = {0d73570307d2b656b976b80ac59d97e9}, isbn = {978-3-319-71273-4}, keywords = {2017 application bayesian data hypotheses hyptrails myown overview sequential}, pages = {354--357}, publisher = {Springer International Publishing}, timestamp = {2018-01-31T10:54:30.000+0100}, title = {Comparing Hypotheses About Sequential Data: A Bayesian Approach and Its Applications}, year = 2017 } @inproceedings{lemmerich2017comparing, added-at = {2018-01-10T03:10:07.000+0100}, author = {Lemmerich, Florian and Singer, Philipp and Becker, Martin and Espin-Noboa, Lisette and Dimitrov, Dimitar and Helic, Denis and Hotho, Andreas and Strohmaier, Markus}, biburl = {https://www.bibsonomy.org/bibtex/2c0a102de85a50d0b65d025009942eb07/dmir}, booktitle = {Joint European Conference on Machine Learning and Knowledge Discovery in Databases}, interhash = {dc6c93522669a56464b830fc0f69b8c6}, intrahash = {c0a102de85a50d0b65d025009942eb07}, keywords = {bayes bayesian comparison data ecml from:becker hyptrails myown nectar sequential}, organization = {Springer}, pages = {354--357}, timestamp = {2024-01-18T10:31:52.000+0100}, title = {Comparing Hypotheses About Sequential Data: A Bayesian Approach and Its Applications}, year = 2017 } @inproceedings{lemmerich2017comparing, added-at = {2018-01-09T10:13:14.000+0100}, author = {Lemmerich, Florian and Singer, Philipp and Becker, Martin and Espin-Noboa, Lisette and Dimitrov, Dimitar and Helic, Denis and Hotho, Andreas and Strohmaier, Markus}, biburl = {https://www.bibsonomy.org/bibtex/2c0a102de85a50d0b65d025009942eb07/becker}, booktitle = {Joint European Conference on Machine Learning and Knowledge Discovery in Databases}, interhash = {dc6c93522669a56464b830fc0f69b8c6}, intrahash = {c0a102de85a50d0b65d025009942eb07}, keywords = {bayes bayesian comparison data ecml hyptrails myown nectar sequential}, organization = {Springer}, pages = {354--357}, timestamp = {2018-01-09T15:39:38.000+0100}, title = {Comparing Hypotheses About Sequential Data: A Bayesian Approach and Its Applications}, year = 2017 }
