Abstract
This chapter reports the results of three studies each examining the way long saccades are used to reinspect elements of previously read text. In the first experiment participants showed evidence of accurately targeted reinspecting saccades but there was no suggestion that local punctuation in the form of a full stop acts to close off spatially coded information. The second experiment demonstrated that reinspecting saccades are coded with reference to a salient local "frame" bordering the text line. The third experiment confirmed the presence of large accurately located saccades, even when their presumed target was no longer visible.
