Abstract

This chapter will address how academic researchers can take advantage of the social media tools for managing bibliographic references online and collaborating with other researchers. Tools such as Zotero, Mendeley, CiteULike, and Connotea take advantage of the best of the new social media by allowing users to seamlessly collaborate with one another and share what they know via online communities. Researchers can post their personal reference libraries, tag references in order to define personal meaning, aggregate tags to form collective meaning among communities of researchers, and collaborate with other researchers in private or public groups. Using online tools means that your reference library is always available. A selection of the leading tools will be examined, providing some pros and cons to help you make your decision. © 2013 Woodhead Publishing Limited. All rights reserved.
