Abstract

Several modifications, some of which are considered innovations, were made in the design of the new 735 kV lines of the Hydro-Quebec network. These modifications have dealt with: the reduction of electrical clearances and the distance between phases; the insulation systems; the establishment of atmospheric loads; the basic principles of line design viewed as a system ; the design of a spacer-damper to control the oscillqtion problems of bundled conductors ; the utilization of guyed towers for the first two lines of the James Bay network and of chainette type structures for certain sections of the other three lines and the design, for the northern regions, of foundations and guy anchors.
