Abstract

The article discusses the importance of business intelligence (BI) for information technology organizations. According to Rob Martens of Ingersoll-Rand, a good BI implementation is important to meet the need of monitoring how well processes are working, how customer demand is evolving, or how current sales practices are affecting a company's financial health. It is advised that before launching a BI initiative, one must understand first the business case. Ian Charlesworth of market research firm Ovum notes that it is easier to apply consistent BI technology to more operational systems. Statistics on business intelligence are presented.
