Abstract

Galloping of conductors is frequently causing severe network disturbances and can lead to severe damages of conductors. In certain cases these damages were so significant, that complete line sections had to be restrung. The repair of these damages requires considerable financial investments and causes breakdowns of lines. It is important, that besides counter measures against galloping also the mechanical stresses of conductors have to be considered. The alternating bending stress at the suspension points is of special interest in case of continuous galloping. A special test arrangement was developed to obtain comparable damages and test results. The report includes experiences with short circuit damages, the aspect of mechanical stress as well as counter measures to eliminate galloping.
