@inproceedings{gossenKJ, abstract = {This paper describes a new user interface for a web search engine whose main target group are young users. We explain the main challenges for this user interface and discuss design decisions we made. Our interface is audio supported, contains possibilities for both searching through text input and navigating using menu categories, has a guidance figure for emotional support and a result storage functionality to support cognitive recall. It is also colourful which is appreciated by most children. A comparative study with 28 young users was conducted where we compared our user interface with a classic text search user interface provided by most current web search engines. We evaluated what features of both interfaces children like or dislike to further improve the interface.}, added-at = {2013-06-21T09:15:16.000+0200}, address = {New York, NY, USA}, author = {Gossen, Tatiana and Nitsche, Marcus and Nürnberger, Andreas}, biburl = {https://www.bibsonomy.org/bibtex/23000961e6a42d082373bb5e8ed93a42f/mnitsche}, booktitle = {Proceedings of the Symposium on Human-Computer Interaction and Information Retrieval (HCIR)}, interhash = {3e502dcbb704f69f7087be61c563755a}, intrahash = {3000961e6a42d082373bb5e8ed93a42f}, keywords = {myown}, pages = 10, publisher = {ACM}, series = {HCIR '12}, timestamp = {2014-01-10T14:42:16.000+0100}, title = {Knowledge Journey: A Web Search Interface for Young Users}, url = {http://doi.acm.org/10.1145/2391224.2391225}, year = 2012 }
