THE ENDURANCE CAPABILITY OF SINGLE AND BUNDLE TRANSMISSION LINE CONDUCTORS AND ITS EVALUATION

(1972)

Abstract

Great importance is attached to the problem· of conductor breakages due to wind-induced vibrations. Study Committee No. 6 (now No. 22) therefore set up in 1966 Working Group 4 to study and report on the subject of "The Endurance Capability of Conductors". The then unsatisfactory state of affairs has gradually changed in recent years. The fatigue characteristics of conductors and the actual stress to which they are subjected have been investigated since 1966 - partly in long-time tests - in countries such as Finland, France, Sweden, Spain. Japan and Germany. These new efforts have benefited from highly developed measuring techniques. CIGRE Study Committees 6 and 22 (Overhead Lines) have also contributed to this .success. The report summarizes all research made by the members of WG 4. The authors represent all members participating in research during recent years, including Messrs : Carlshem (Sweden), Helms (Germany). Nakayama (Japan). Nicholls (United Kingdom), Nyssonen (Finland), Philipps (Germany), Poffenberger (U.S.A.J, Porcheron (France), Buckner (Germany), Convenor of WG 4.
