Vom Reinziehen, Eintrichtern und Anbohren. Eine Metaphernanalyse über die Alltagssprache des Lernens

. Diplomarbeit, Magisterarbeit, (2014)

Abstract

Learning as a topic of experimental and field research is one of the well-established in psychology. As figures of speech in everyday language, learning concepts are normally not examined deeply.
This diploma thesis focuses on metaphors used in everyday language to describe learning processes. In the first part an overview about the historical development of metaphorical conceptualization is given, starting with Platon and ending with statements by cognitive linguistic theories. The author briefly introduces into hermeneutic theories, as metaphorical analysis is a hermeneutic-rooted method, and also offers some connections to Harold Garfinkel's ethnomethodolgy. In the practical part the author presents different metaphorical concepts of learning in everyday language. These were extracted by the author from different types of media and are scrutinized concerning their conceptual highlighting and hiding. The variety of lingustic figures, their roles and implications are demonstrated.
Metaphorical concepts of learning influence the way learning processes are configured by trainers and learners. This work likes to sensibilize practinioners — learners and teachers, in formal or informal learning situations — to their everyday learning language. As a result of sensibilization traditional patterns of thinking and acting may be questioned, so contríbuting to successful leaning settings may be possible.
