Abstract

With the gradual increase of the information resources in digital libraries, it becomes especially important to provide personalized services for users. However, most existing personalization systems in digital libraries independently save their own information. Even if they save the same or similar user information, the information can not be shared. Therefore, the user has to register his her information repeatedly when he she visits several different digital libraries. Cross system personalization, which shares personalization information across different systems in a user-centric way, overcomes the above-mentioned problems. A basic challenge that cross system personalization has to reconsider is the adequate user modeling. This paper summarizes and analyzes the existing reusable user models for cross system personalization. Based on the earlier researches, we propose a new extensible multi-dimensional user model, which would be used for cross system personalization in digital libraries.
