The primarycauseforearlyfailureofceramicrestorationsissurfaceandsubsurfacedamageinducedin adjustmentandresurfacingusingdentalhandpieces/burs.Thispaperreportsfiniteelementanalysis (FEA)modellingofdentalresurfacingtopredictthedegreesofsubsurfacedamage,incombinationwith experimentalmeasurementusingscanningelectronmicroscopy(SEM).TheFEApredictionsof subsurfacedamageinducedinafeldsparporcelainwithcoarsediamondburswereinagreementwith the SEMexperimentalmeasurement.Thesefindingsprovidedentalcliniciansaquantitativedescription of theresponseofdentalresurfacing-inducedsubsurfacedamage.Theimplicationoftheresultsfor non-destructiveevaluationofsubsurfacedamagebyFEAmodellingwillbepracticallymeaningfulto clinicaldentalrestorationsforhigh-qualityceramicrestorations.
