Diversity of Ichthyofauna from Sina Kolegoan Dam Osmanabad Dist. Maharashtra

Abstract

Ichthyofaunal studies were undertaken during March 2012 to February 2014 in the Sina Kolegoan Dam Dist, Osmanabad. The aim of the paper was to assess the variety and abundance of the important fish fauna inhabiting this water bodies. The present study confirms the occurrences of 32 fish species belonging to 18 genera, 8 families and 6 orders. Order Cypriniformes was dominant in dam with 20 species followed by order Siluriformes with 5 species, Channiforms with 6 species and Clupeiformes with 2 species and rest the order Mastacembeliformes and Perciformes by single species. The paper describes the detailed species composition their relative contribution and also some important points that may help to better understand the current scenario of ichthyofaunal diversity.
