Abstract

The Data Archive (http://dawww.essex.ac.uk) has a dual role of safeguarding current data for the future and at the same time providing effective access to it today. As a result The Data Archive is well placed to distinguish between passing fashions and long lasting changes among technological developments. Some of these changes have enabled The Data Archive to initiate a number of strategic projects that will improve the quality and range of available services whilst still maintaining a hold on the standards and procedures that enable archiving to be carried out safely for future researchers. The paper summarises the key developments and describes their implication for information services at The Data Archive
