Abstract

It has been difficult within the context of traditional construction engineering programs to convey the realism and dynamism of the construction project environment. CONSTRUCTO is a computerized construction management game developed at the Univ. of Illinois which attempts to confront the student with the realism of the actual construction site. The game is structured within the framework of a network representation of the project. It initially estimates the forward progress of the construction based on standard productivities. The player then “constructs” the project on a period by period basis interacting with the actual weather factors and productivities generated in a Monte Carlo fashion by the computer. The weather and economic aspects of the game can be varied by changing “templates” which control these elements.
