The corona extinction voltage was reduced as the atmospheric pressure lowered. Corona characteristics were greatly improved by applying semiconducting glaze on the porcelain surface near a cap edge and a pin. The suspension insulator units with partial semiconducting glaze are recommended for use in transmission lines at high altitudes in order to suppress corona activities.
